FMIC (front mount intercooler) kit for Nissan 200SX
The standard wing mount intercooler on the 200SX is only designed to cope with the heat levels created by standard boost pressure. If you increase the boost (and let's face it, you want to) the standard system suffers from heat soak when the car's pushed hard. This leads to higher charge temperatures which can mean a drop in performance and a significant increase in detonation occuring. This problem is made worse when drifting as airflow to the front of the car is limited and the engine is typically working hard
These FMIC kits feature a large core (actually the exact same one we used for the V-mount setup on our S14a) as well as all the pipework and brackets needed to sit it up front giving it plenty of fresh air.
Fitting of the kit requires cutting a hole in the battery tray and trimming a little metal off the front bumper mounts. Nothing the average DIY mechanic can't handle
Because of the battery tray cutting, you will need to relocate your existing battery to the boot or fit a smaller race battery in the usual place
