Theres 4 studs/bolts that hold the whole rear subframe/diff carrier to the floor of the car, and in early cars they can be ripped out, taking the floor with it - leading to a costly repair bill or scrapping of the shell. BMW themselves do the 4 reinforcement plates for about 65 quid, and its quite a big job, as it requires dropping the rear subframe off and getting the fuel tank out. Drop me a PM and I can send you the part numbers and a link to a thread on e36coupe.co.uk that shows what needs doing, and I might be able to get some pics of mine as its up on the ramps at Chizfab at the moment.
