| Didn't read all of the surgestions so if its all ready been said, i appologise.
If its had a boost controller fitted and then removed, normaly they will just put the boost vacum feed strait to the waste gate actuator, normaly goes through a bleed off valve that the ecu controls.
Which means its making it laggy as hell, and taking ages to come onto boost as the wastegate is creeping open as it comes up on boost slowing it down.
Also if you have blue clocks in your car, its a series one, and they come with extremely small turbos compared to the series two that have the grey clocks! so if your firends is a grey clock R32, thats why its faster.
