I think it needs to have pins - if there is a fire/issue the marshalls can get the bonnet up to sort it out without having to fumble around in the cabin by the shattered legs of the remains of the slowly roasting driver.
I've scared myself a little there.

The pins don't have to be flush, mine aren't and I have four of the buggers holding my bonnet down.
