OSAKA -- A high school teacher who performed a drift racing-style handbrake turn at an intersection here has been arrested, police said.
The 26-year-old, Takayuki Yasui, a teacher at Fujiidera Technology High School, was arrested for violating the Road Traffic Law. He has admitted to the allegations against him.
"Drifting's fun, and I've done it before," he was quoted as telling police, who accuse him of making an illegal handbrake U-turn at an intersection in Osaka's Suminoe-ku at about 1:35 a.m. on Sunday.
Residents in the area have been complaining about the noise made by street racers, and police and the Kinki District Transport Bureau held a crackdown on the illegal sport from late on Saturday.
Police also arrested an 18-year-old from Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, for violating the Road Vehicle Trucking Law by removing the license plates from his vehicle. The Kinki District Transport Bureau also handed a vehicle maintenance order to two people in a vehicle that had been modified. |
