oil prices determine fuel price.

Already demand outstrips supply, so the supply goes to the highest bidder. Huge world powers like India and China can cough up much more than we can, so that's what happens to the price. It sucks, but that's the reality. The situation will never improve. In fact, as oil becomes more and more scarce, it'll become more and more expensive.

Almost certainly within our lifetimes, petrol and diesel as we know them will all but cease to exist as a consumer item.

This is the reality of the world we live in. You can bury your head in the sand and focus solely on the immediate inconvenience of having to pay slightly more than you used to for fuel, or you can accept that unless drastic action is taken, the planet's basically fudged.

Or, the third alternative, you can just accept it, pay up, and enjoy petrol while it lasts. Because one day, possibly fairly soon, it'll be almost impossible to afford.
