Nz R32

My R32 4dr drifter. Its a long read....

I purchased it mid 2005, a grey r32 auto sedan with factory type-s bodykit, minus engine and box and planned to have it completed before round one of D1nz in 2006.

I stripped the entire car over a week and bolted on some spare 5stud front hubs and from then the car sat untouched till Jan 2006.

In January I moved house, so the car went on the truck and came with, once again I left it sitting there. A week and a half before round 1 of D1nz 2006 I decided I had to build the car I pulled the BC adjustables and adjustable arms(castor, camber, traction and toe) from my road car and fitted them to the shell, purchased a 5stud conversion, diff and axles from a gts4 and fitted them to the car, rolled/lipped the guards, bought some 17x8 and 17x9 Gmax 050s and slapped em on and dropped her back on the pavement. It look pretty nice gunmetal grey with the bronze 17s, but this wasnt going to stand out enough.

Anywho, I towed the car to Petes Customs(a local fabricator here in CHCH) and he hooked me up on the half cage install (as he was just starting out). when I got the car back that night I removed the factory spotlights from the front bumper and binned them, then proceeded to angle grind a nice gapping hole into the front bar and bumper iron to accomodate the 600x300x100mm front mount intercooler, bolted on the cooler and refit the bumper. The car sat over the weekend until the real business started.

I took the week off work to complete the project in time and worked from 7am to roughly 2am Monday through Thursday night. I mounted the Battery box in the boot, ran power cables to the engine bay, refit the dashboard(minus all heater components and trim panels) mounted the fire extinguisher, cut holes in the inner guards for intercooler pipes and fit the manual pedals and clutch cylinders.

Time for the Driveline, A freshly imported r33 Rb25det and 5speed transmission was purchased off a mate, Chris. I slapped in a new Exedy 5 puck unsprung clutch disc and Heavy Duty pressure plate and dropped it all into the car, amazingly the 25t box bolt straight up to the auto bodyshell, which i was rather pleased about cause i didnt have to fab up a crossmember, in went the radiator, inty pipes etc. I custom made a r32 loom with r33 injector loom spliced in and had a "friend" solder it up for me while i continued the build. I fit the Kakimoto Racing 3inch cat back exhaust donated by Chris and Daito autoparts and had Pete weld up a 3inch front pipe to join it all to the turbo. Scott/MrX(another mate) dropped into the workshop and painted the car for me(after i sanded it for damn hours!) Kawasaki green with a black roof and bonnet.

The next day I fit a GTS link that i borrowed from Chris, filled the driveline with oils bled the brakes and fired her up. first pop and it went Yes! No time for testing, up on the trailer and off to Ashley at Xposed graphics for the sticker work. When i got the car back the following day, it really looked the part, I fitted a bucket seat that i borrowed off Adam and a harness i bought from sydneham park Chev spares and we were ready for the test drive. on went my road cars number plates SSSSHHHH! and at 11.40pm i drove it to Akaroa to run in the clutch and ensure everything was in good working reliable order returning home at 3am half asleep.

6.30am Friday morning the car was on Chris's truck and off to PAD for a Dyno tune, I really have to thank PAD as he got there early and held off one of his regular clients to tune my car for a discounted price. Finished at 10am and back on the truck and out to ruapuna for the practice day. The end result 308rwhp at 10psi and after some rewiring of the injectors on friday night i netted myself a top 16 placing at my first event. Sweet!

Theres more to come!
