This topic has been done to DEATH on here...long and short of it is theres a real love/hate thing with welders. If you try and drive a car with a welded diff like its still got a Viscous or open diff it will bite you. My daily has a welder on and it's no harder to drive, and its definately easyer to skid!
My main reason for welding mine was cost...it was about 25quid for me to weld it or £400 odd for a 1.5 LSD...and I'm broke! No brainer for me tbh!
