Cheap Hoff motoring, i love em! |
Sorry mate have to challenge you on that one, they are pretty good engines and were the 2J of thier day, there was a head bolt torque issue with the turbo's from the factory. (an easy fix)
Big end bearings are only a problem with lack of maintainence, like all toyota engines they are quite sensitive with oil, i.e. if its run low a lot it will shit itsself pretty quickly, and most people are shit at maintaining thier cars, so, like most ebay £300 quid shitters, if they have been ragged without much maintainance they are not going to last long on a drift track. Luckily a spare engine is only £100-150 if you intend on buying a total lemon.
I'd say given that they are 1987 and up vintage, they do a hell of a lot better than S13's of younger age. And the N/A 7M-GE has more power and is nicer to drive than a CA. Extra puppy fat can be removed if you are not too bothered about creature comforts like A/C, leather armchairs and other gubbins.
