Sat was a busy DWYB so I only managed to get one run in the car, probably about 5 laps. The track was drying fast and I thought the 35 psi in the rears might not be enough and I might struggle to maintain the drift. Turned out 60% of the track was still very slippery so I was ok. Managed to link most of the track apart from the fast bit where there was a horrible puddle. Kept spinning and after two high speed attempts at redesigning the rear into a fence I decided to straighten up just before it each lap. Lex informs me I should have aimed for the field! Probably right but a bit scary all the same. Dipping the clutch might have helped too.

Lee gets some more seat time, doing well and giving rides!

A quickish puncture on the right rear hampered Lee's consistancy, will have to sort that before next time. Car don't look too bad for a shed...

Went to DWYB on Wednesday, was a very cold day with snow on the ground. Despite this the turnout was excellent so Lee and I decided it was best to concentrate on our proper job of taking the pics. Jo was on hand to help with the pits shots. So the BPR32 had a day off.

    DWYB 7th March 2012

Rocked up to DWYB in the BPR32 ready to do some skids for a change. Lately been taking my photo job fairly seriously so haven't spent much time on track. Decided it was my turn for the 'seat time' and took to the track early on when it was peeing it down! The Marangoni tyres on the front really did the biz and cut through all that standing water with ease.

I gave a couple of passenger rides to one of Nick's customers and ReeperR32 from DW. Managed to link the track fairly consistently once I'd got used to the levels of grip.

After lunch Lee took the car out whilst I captured some pics in case anyone was interested. Lee had plenty of fun and can link the majority of the track. He spent time trying to perfect the toilet bend onto the big corner at the top. He hasn't managed the big bend yet and I am still a bit worried about the dodgy bump and how he'll handle it. Lee's cool and is happy to keep the car in one piece for me at the moment. I'll give him the green light when he's ready I'm sure.

Finally, I offered Steve from Mint Tyres a go as his R32 isn't back to full health at the moment. It was cool to see him put it through its paces from the outside.

I am really chuffed with the flame shot! I know it's not me driving but it made it to my sig pic! Lol...

I had a bit of a disappointing incident at Pod yesterday. Took photos for the whole morning so after lunch I was itching to get out and have a go in my car as the top track was very free flowing with virtually no queue!

I was on my out lap and gripped the first two bends past the toilets and the big blocks, initiated with handbrake into the top hairpin. Transitioned into the next bend which was more slippery than I imagined causing me to spin out, then bang! I was hit by an S13 who was travelling too close to avoid me. No real hard feelings, but it was such a shame that my day ended after 1/3 of a lap.

I managed to limp off the track to inspect the car. Damage caused, bent R32 GTR bumper bar, cracked and dented GTR bumper, smashed (clear) indicator, crushed and bent intercooler pipe and broken headlight brackets. The intercooler pipe was pushed back causing the next pipe to be forced forward into the viscous fan which jammed solid. Lex and a few guys pushed me down into the pits, cheers guys.

Steve from Mint Tyres was the hero of the day, working on the car in the pouring rain allowing me to go out and take some more photos to try and earn a few quid towards repairs!

He managed to take the intercooler piping away allowing him to remove the viscous fan and then reconnected the piping. Everything was then cable tied back together as best as possible. This allowed me to drive home under my own steam and sort the car out in due course. The alloy rad kept temperatures at bay and the traffic was free flowing so I didn't have any cooling issues at all. Car should be fine for the next one although I doubt I will be able to drive as I'll be too busy taking pics as it's a Saturday DWYB.

Seen loads worse at Pod, more gutted at losing the seat time you wouldn't believe how free flowing the queue was. There were 50 cars running but the majority were in the pens and kidney.

You might have to pass the cam to me mate that way I can give the Beemer a rest and you can go have a little play. Or we could run opposite queue out on track, get some pics and the other car in line then swap cam lol

    DWYB 19th May 2012

Had some more fun at DWYB on Saturday. The queue on the big track got smaller so I decided to pop out on track for some laps. Mr Nick took the opportunity to drop a passenger off with me. I was a little nervous after last week so I explained to the lady that I would be giving people a wide berth. The shape of the track was slightly different and there was a very large wet bit on the big bend so it took me a few laps to literally get to grips with it. I decided to drift everything apart from the last bit of the big bend. Just to keep me and the car in one piece as I am not that great on the wand and there wasn't much run off. I enjoyed the longer sweeper after the hairpin, meaning you had to be careful with your line or get sucked in tight by the cones. As this is one of the most slippery points on the track it made it a bit of a challenge.

I took Nick's passenger out for a couple of runs and a quick whiz around a pen to show her what she'll be doing in her Drift Racing Experience in a few weeks time. She seemed to enjoy herself. ON my last run of the afternoon I gave Steve's son Calvin a ride around the top track. At last I managed to produce some decent smoke, even getting the 32 on the lock stops on a couple of the esses.

Clive was up tutoring his mate whilst he's doing some work on his S14a and doing some marshalling for Lex and he asked if he could have a go of my car. As I have known him for ages and he is a regular customer of mine I said ok. I don't think the car's lack of power impressed him much as he's used to a bit more poke, nor did the fact I was only running 38 psi in the rears! Might have to experiment with slightly higher pressure in future and get the grip back by smoking the tyres up properly. Also need to experiment with rear ride height and damper settings to cut out some body roll.

    Clive in action.

Clive did finish off my other clear indicator by hitting a cone but I had just bought a pair of orange ones off Chunk anyway so it doesn't matter, lol...

Not done many updates lately as I've had a bit of work done on the car but not much drifting.

Recent work: RB20 Hybrid Turbo from CR Turbos (drift spec - RB25 inlet, 360 degree thrust bearing, new seals, steel wheel), fitted by Gaz at Drift Garage, braided lines, oil and filter change, new gaskets from Conceptua. New Ferodo brake pads on the front as the brakes were shocking, much improved performance and feel. New pair of front wings, painted matte black to match the rear overfenders, flared by Gaz.

Next step was a trip to Rising Sun Performance (down in Hampshire) to get it mapped. Car made 325 BHP and 315 ft lb of torque. Was hoping for 350 but it was an improvement all the same. Car felt strong from 4000 and really pulled from 5000 on the road.

Didn't use the car at DWYB as it was so busy.

Decided to have a go at God of the Pod on Saturday, combined handling and drag strip event. At lunch time I was sitting in second position, at the end of the day I came 8th.

Bad news is that I blew the engine. The dipstick blew out and it spat some oil out. This I am told could be because of a build up of crank case pressure. With the reduced oil and hard cornering combined with high revs it made a loud clonk and now knocks over 2000 rpm. So bottom end is suspected. 22 year old engine having extra boost put through it and the shit revved out of it on a hot day was a bit too much for it to handle apparently, lol...

Only problem is with my car, it's a GTS4 so the engine is different to a GTST RB20DET. Luckily I have sourced another GTS4 engine so the car has had a reprieve and I am getting Gaz to fit the engine ASAP.

I still in two minds whether to enter the Ken Block Gymkhana Grid comp as I think it would be fun to take part in rather than just take pics all the time!

    Hi Ian,

I've been following your thread with interest as I'm rebuilding a GTS4 as well. Do you know what the differences between GTST and GTS4 engines are aside from the sump? I have a GTST engine to go in mine, but thought they were pretty much the same!

    Cheers

    James

I am told that it isn't a straight bolt up job. The engine mounts are in different positions and the easiest option without extra fabricating (and cost) was to go for a GTS4 engine. Not impossible just not simple.

Hey man. I know nothing of RBs so correct me if I'm wrong...
But surely the crankcase should breath through the breather/breathers a long time before it throws the dipstick. Could all of this been due to a blocked breather?
    Fucking rad car regardless though.

I hear what you're saying, it's a matter of personal taste I suppose. The stickers all have relevance to either drifting or bits I have on my car, it's not like I bombed it with a pack I got off the internet.

The phrase on Skyline Owners is "pop riveted stickered up joke machine" but then again they like getting R33 GTST embroidered into their leather seat covers! Lol...
