On the back window? It was for a friends birthday card- we all decided to say HBDay in random ways rather than get him pressies as he was away in Japan. A picture of my Super5 rinsing round an airfield was my effort. Was pretty funny, though I got a few odd looks on the day!

There's cars we should just never sell... Your 5 is one of them.
I slid on hail stones and climbed a kerb at 5mph with the brakes locked on my GTT and did a couple of £1,000 worth of damage to the chassis and subframe, etc. Thought back then of buying a basic R5 and swapping the running gear over, then stripping it , roll caging it, then fitting (wide) steel alloys with centre caps. I never did it, just got it repaired, kept it a year and finally got fed up with it's unreliability..but had I - it would have been awesome to end up with one like your's. Looks sorted!!

My next car after the 5, back in 1992 was my first of now 4 AE86's. Can still remember my friends in the back being impressed it would snake up a wet road in 3rd with 3 of them in the back Always loved the handling and the engine and so my interest in Jap cars grew....

Now I'm back where I started, in a way

For Paz:

Here's a pic of a BCNR33 Radiator - Most likely these can be made to fit an AE86. I know a BNR32 Radiator's the one they usually use though (With same hose points & diameters).

Haven't posted for a while about this car. Now it's finished, it's used whenever I get the chance! Below are some pics.

Changes I've made since last posting have been to fit a custom made Kimizu Motor Services (KMS) N2 racing manifold, complete with spring attachment, to allow some flex during drifting. This required another remap of the Freedom ECU, so I left the car with Asano San, at Techno Pro Spirits for 2 weeks, for him to take his time any time he drove it. It's perfectly mapped now.

The close ratio TRD box has made a lot of difference. Really keeps the car on song in the first 3 gears, especially and allows me more speed into corners. Got rid of the C's quick shift - Standard shift is longer, but kinder on the box and ultimately the quickest of all. TRD quick shifts are rubbish for AE86's..

Have recently retrimmed the Cusco roll cage in all black foam - without cutting it lenghways (Compressed air and cabletie on end blow it up like a ballon) and put in polished alloy door bars, plus diagonal rear bar.

Car's proving to be completely reliable - Nothing ever falls off, breaks, or fails. Really pleased with the way it's turned out.

It gets a full oil change every time it goes drifting, with 10W60 Castrol Synthetic Racing Oil, 75W90 Wakos synthetic gear oil for the box and 140W synthetic gear oil for the diff. These are the recommended oils for hard use, by the tuners we've spoken with who race AE86's here in Japan.

Plans for the future include fitting a brake bias kit and a Starlet EP91 brake servo (Smaller than standard - to allow better air flow to the 4th trumpet).

Someday may have the shell and interior stripped and all restored by Carland, near Nagoya with some seam welding too - but as it's used in anger, I don't want to tempt fate right now.. plus the thought of building it all over again doesn't seem tempting!

Anyways, here are a few recent pics of it in action. I use it for both grip and drift. Took it to Izu with some GT-R owning friends... It's as quick from 50 -100 mph as a stage 1 tuned 350 bhp R34 GT-R...Which was the first surprise...

On the mountain touge roads, only my other car, the RX-7 was quicker (A lot quicker! ). Weight and response play a part, I guess - although the GT-R's weren't trying as hard, and their cars are set up purely for road use.

Loving the raw and pure driving experience this AE86 gives. Never found any other all round car more fun to drive on the road / track yet!

Some of these pics have been posted elsewhere, but for those who haven't seen them and so they're all in one place I've shown here, together with a few more recent pics.

Hope you guys like!

Dude, thats one sexy looking manifold

Are the pipes equal length? And its obviously stainless

When you say custom made, do you mean that they only make it to the car?!
Do they actually sell 86 manifolds that they dont have to have the car with them? If so, how much for a 20v one

KMS who made this manifold are based right next to Tsukuba Circuit and have been AE86 N2 race champions several times. They have a very strong following by people with AE86's here in Japan for the right reasons.

I was recommended to them by TPS, after the race manifold they'd fitted in the engine build cracked for the 2nd time due to drift transitions. Wasn't cheap - but top quality never is. Performance on cam is now even better than before - surprisingly with more torque low down too.

Miguel.

They asked me what pipe thickness I wanted and the diameter of silencer it would be fitted to. In my case, I wanted to keep PAS and A/C and this design was compatible. They then took 3 weeks to make it. Fitted first time with no troubles at all. They will probably have various designs for a 20V..

Cheers Bro's... It gets well loved.... But used hard too. Can't resist using all the power it can make. It's addictive

In hindsight I'm glad I didn't fit low drift bodywork to it.... Would definitely have been smashed off by now, if so!
