Someone had to do it...SR20det powered Volvo 360

    .......Volvo 360 saloon

We're about 1/3 of the way through the build at the mo and i am getting badgered by Nev to start a build thread so here we go....

It all started with 2 very excited child like minded people, Me and Nev (Nev @ F1/Drift Moto) I know Volvo isn't everyone's cup of tea but this is gonna surprise a few people!!

All fabrication work is and has been done by Nev @ F1/Drift Moto, Brandshatch, Kent .... so if you are in need of fabrication work done to your pride and joy then this is your man...

This is the Volvo 360 saloon in question...

And this is the engine transplant

And i'll let the pics show the progress when i upload them later......

Thank you for looking and stay tuned....

The usual has to happen with the horrible job of stripping interior and sound deadening, these pics show the doors have also been cut out...

Area cleaned for main hoop boxes...

    Boxes made and welded in....

Main hoop had been previously bent into shape and fitted so we cracked on with making the rest of the rear part of the cage, bearing in mind, this is a bolt on cage made to fit...

The cross bar is also bolt in with fixing brackets welded in place...

All components tacked into place and then all welded up

Rear strut brace is quite aggressive but will also take the harness's....
    Welded to both skins...

After some hard graft from Nev the rear cage was designed, welded and in within 3hrs .....never seen him break a sweat before LOL

Previously, which i'm sure you're more interested in, Nev made a Bellhousing adapter template from mdf for the Volvo 360 bellhousing to bolt to the SR20 block. The 360 transmision will handle 300hp as previously proven by our fellow skidders in europe when running the 2.3 turbo from the Volvo 740 & 940...

Engine mounts designed from cds tube, engine now suspended in the engine bay from the original chassis mounts...

Placed head, turbo and inlet manifold to check for clearance. Inlet has slight clearance issue but has since been overcome...

To save on weight and just to be incredibly savage, Nev designed the exhaust to be mounted in the engine bay and exits through the wing
Unfortunately due to regs, the exhaust has to have a silencer so Nev supplied this little beauty, it is called an "Aero Turbine" which is designed to increase gas flow....not that there is alot of pipe work

Whilst all the fabrication work was being done i cracked on with putting the sr360 on a serious diet!

    Bumper irons chopped...

    Rear valence cut out...

Spot welds drilled for spare wheel well and excess metal cut out following chassis rails...

It look likes a very funny build here, I will follow this one !

By the way, your harness bar should have been welded with some reinforcement plates, no ?

    Bought some goodies ...

Had rose joints fitted instead of the standard bush...

Mk2 escort quick rack with modified rack spacers designed by Nev...

And a 5 link rear axle...

    Brackets welded in place...

The plan is to get the engine bay fab'd and finished tomorrow (Sat) so the dummy engine can come out, engine bay prepped for paint and then crack on with the rest of the jobs....

Stay tuned for more exciting updateds!!!!!

In the usual case yes but the bar goes through a double skin in the arches and is weld to both skins either end. If the scrutineer isn't in agreance(sp) then i'll just run the harness from the original rear seatbelt mounts

That exhaust is frickin' awesome. If you get flames on the overrun you'll set fire to people walking along the pavement though...
