Starlet KP60 4AGE project

Ive had this a while and you may have already seen pictures of it on here.

The car was originaly running cosworth running gear and I bought it as a rolling shell from somone on here who runs mallory park drift school.
The car is in pretty good condition considering its 26 years old however some of the previous work thats been done is good and some is poor so Im rectifying the bad bits along the way.

The body is basically a full george polly rod spec:

The suspension is bassicaly all ford escort:
    Mk 2 grp4 bilstein coilovers
4 linked 2.8 capri Atlas axle with LSD
2.8 capri rear drums and front discs
    Escort rack

Im changing the front calipers to AP 4 pots and the rear to Cosworth calipers and non vented discs which will still fit under the 13" wheels.

I will be adding a Mk2 escort rack because its standard ratio at the moment and adjustable TCA's.

I also need to get hold of some MK2 Escort rear 2 1/4" rear coilovers.

On the shell the gearbox tunnel had been modified to take a type 9 box and was like a patch work quilt Ive now cut this all out and bought a MK2 GRP4 tunnel to go in.
The passanger side front foot well and inner sill has also had a jubious repair so this is also being cut out and replaced.

The spare wheel has also been previously removed to make way for the under floor alloy racing tank.

Were the boot floor has been filled in were the wheel well was also needs re-doing because Im not happy with it.

(I will take some pictures and load them up)

The running gear is 4AGE 16V on 45's running EDIS and megajolt ignition the box is from a AE86 (if anyone knows the model no for the box let me know)

Fitting the engine in required some sump modification because the car is running Escort suspension and front anti-roll bar which runs forward of the cross member rather than backwards making it very tight with the sump.

I have also had the dash Flocked by Marc Dixon on here whos doing Flocking for swaps looks really good.

I have 95% of what I need to get the car built just time now but I do need some ford fitting 4x112 wheels between 8 and 10x13 so hit me up if you have any.

Thats it for now updates will follow cheers.

Dunno if you still intrested, the gearbox is a T50 but it has a different shifter position from AE86, most likely from Celica TA22 TA23 with a 4age bellhousing bolted up. Count the inputshaft spline should be 20 if its a celica box or 22 if its AE86 AA63.
Or itīs a AE86 box with the tailhousing of a Celica, thatīs a straight swap.

Great thanks I suspected it was a T50 but there are some differances between the AE86 version with the shifter because the quickshift I bought didnt fit. I will count the splines when I take it all back out.

Yeah, only that will clear things up.
Youīre lucky, cause the shifter positon is much nicer than it usually comes with 4AGE to Kp6* swaps. AE86 gearbox moves the shifter position 15cm backwards from stock and thats close to the handbrake :-)

Did a bit more tonight cutting out the previous sh1t repairs and getting the new tunnel lined up.

    Check the previous tunnel mods

And the new one ready to be welded in

And heres what I cut out of the passanger floor and the cage was welded to this

Once ive got the new floor panel made up I will get it all welded up.

Also scored some Bilstein rear coilovers today so I have a set of Spax adjustables available and springs that should fit AE86 the shocks also fit Escorts.

So you got a T50 from a early Celica TA22/23, and thats were to look for a shifter (going to be hard :-) but is not as strong as the AE86 T50.
Obviously you can only use any driveshaft yoke from Kp6* KE7* KE3* TA2* TE7*....
Does the bellhousing already match the 4AGE engine?
If yes take it off and check, what has been done with the bearing there is a problem with the smaller gbox input bearing in larger 4AGE bellhousing bearing shell. If someone did it properly, there is a sleeve or a different bearing, wich assures a tight fit.

The engine and gearbox all came from a kit car built by Tiger engineering (lotus 7 kit car) it was there demo car.
www.tigerracing.com :: Tiger Racing :: Sportscars For Road and Track
So the bellhousing clutch etc were already working fine.
I have the original prop shaft yoke from the kit car as well I just need to have a propshaft made up.
I think a quickshift is going to be an issue.

Ok, so there wonīt be any issues most likely.
You can build your own short shifter the "oldschol diy way"

I know its a guide for AE86 T50 but ot will sort of work with yours, too.

Well been doing a bit as its been better weather.
Removed boot floor as previous floor wasnt done very well. (the spare wheel well had previously been removed so the alloy race tank could be fitted)
Braced the floor and added an extra section of box between the chassis legs
Also added a rear strut brace.

Alos painted up the 4 pot calipers and rear calipers for the rear disc conversion

Some more bits and pieces rear coilovers quick rack adjustable TCA's

    More bad repairs removed

Will be filled and painted but I have to seam weld under the bonnet yet.

Ive also got 4 set of wheels now 10x13 Wellas 8x13 Wellas 7x13 capri RS wheels 6x13 rs2000 wheels.

Allthe original underseal and paint has been scrapped and bunred off ready for the underside repaint the inside and under the bonnet is also getting repainted.

I also modified a GTIr front strut brace for the front.

Im hoping if the weather holds to be re-fitting everything by the end of April

    More pics soon.
