ae86, back to my roots and the reason i'm going to be skint

here we go again, the 6th ae86 i've owned and the biggest project i've undertaken to date as a road car.

the corolla used to have the trd wide arch kit fitted and was going to have a ca18det fitted ( for what reason i'm really unsure )

i am going to be rebuilding the corolla as a road / daily runner so it'll be 4age powered with a t50 box and try and rectify the arch conversion and make it look the part again.

1st on the agenda, sort the rust patches on the underside of the car and various other places and rust proof the whole thing to prevent an early death.

at the moment i am missing many parts so if you have any odds and sods please pm me details and maybe my puzzle will get sorted sometime this year.
tomorrow the car is off to the welder i know and today has benn the removal of the sound proofing ready for that to happen

pics of the car as it stands

more to follow tomorrow / sunday

Rossi's? Loved the N2 kit, but I think you're going to make it look just as good, only in a different way! Can't wait to see progress!

Some progress made today, found some tin worm that needed sorting and there are other areas that will need addressing over the coming weeks before the 1980's jigsaw puzzle can start

These areas have been done so far and the plates/cutting back of rusty metal have been a tad excessive but I don't want rust appearing again anytime soon.
It's been a very productive day as most of the affected areas have had the plates made and existing metal prepped ready to weld

I'm in desperate need of a fuel tank for this, stock if poss pleas if anyone has one

Today after doing some checks and speaking to various people it turns out the corolla is a genuine uk car as it has the 17 digit prefix chasis number starting JT1

Not sure if it's a good thing but it was registered in the uk in 1987 so it's one of the last ones too.

    More to come tomorrow

yeah it's a uk car. went through a couple owners, Rossi, Zub had it a while. last time i saw it, it was rotten as fuck. needs someone who knew what they were doing with a welder that's for sure.

that said, there's a lot of stuff there. so shouldn't take many parts to get it running.

Rotten as fuck is a tad harsh but yeah it needs some attention in various places like the rear pockets and chasis rail above the exhaust. The guy who is welding the car is a professional welder and has been for 12 years now, he's used to welding mk1 and mk2 escorts etc so knows what rust is

He looked the car over and said it's not as bad as it looked and gave me 2 options,

1: make the car look like it's never seen a welder but means mega time and money.

2: cut the sections of rust away and make it roadworthy on a slightly lower budget, not cutting corners but will not have the ridges in rear pockets and I'll have to get hands on when it's back. Ie painting and undersealing etc.

Don a little bit this morning, took the front wings off as some replacements are on the way and I half expected to find some nasties but was suprised to find it clean and only a very small amount of surface rust so happy days, also started painting the engine bay and front panel ready for the heart going in.

Few pics and more to come soon
