The whole idea of building a driftcar out of a w126 SEC MB ? It's different. At least here in Finland we don't have too much heavily modified mb's. Alltough 500 sec isn't the easiest way.. Going to use chevy v8 engine and supra mkiv axles. Updates coming soon..
Badly wanted one of these as a kid ........ surprised the Merc drivetrain isnt strong enough TBH. Carry on
First we took the hole car apart: This was all worth saving: Original front axle was too complicated and hard to modify for drift use. Rear axle was also too weak to handle boosted cid's. Decided to use Supra MKIV axles. We raised the axles so that the lower controlarms? would be in better position as the car's on it's rideheight. (sorry for my bad english, hope you get the point.) Suprisingly they didn't fit without major modifications.. Some room for the wheels and axle. Front suspension mounting
I have 6 litre gm LQ4 engine for this car.(Hummer H2) It's allmost like LSx engines except the block is cast iron.(handles boost better, maybe.) Also some difference in rods and pistons. It has to be rebuilt anyway. Empty block with heads, just for fitting purposes. Going to use Tremec TKO-600 transmission. I have Liberty prepared version of it. 2,3 and 4th gears are with "dog" engagement rings. 1st and 5th are synchronized. Transmission needed some space also.
The car was originally LHD, decided to make it RHD. Recently i took the car to KKD Motorsport and Kalle made me intercooler and amazing custom exhaust manifolds. Two holset HX 40 Super turbo's and 50 mm wastegates, also from KKD Motorsport Next thing would be the exhaust pipes.. Also rollgage has to be made. More pictures: http://teamlmd.1g.fi/kuvat/MB+500+sec/ I will update this thread as we make some progress.
Fucking sweet! This is going to be amazing! Awesome fabrication work! Do you do fabrication work for a living? What are you doing bodywork/exterior wise to the car?
Thanks, it would be cool to do this for a living but this is only a hobby for me. I think that i might have to keep the car's look allmost as it is. As i'm planning to drive it next summer, there won't be too much time. Hopefully it's black and low. I've started working on the exhaust. There will be 4 silencers, 2 vibrant performance stainless steel and 2 stainless steel simons. The pipes will be 3.5 inch. Thanks for all the positive comment's, keeps the motivation up.
I was hoping you'd say that about the exterior, keep it stock looking! Side exit exhausts too! Love it
