1jz Mini, Yes I am Mad!

How are things everyone, my name is Liam and I live in Co.Cork in Ireland.

I thought Id put my build up to show everyone what I'm doing, also I'm sure I will need help along the way!

The general specs on the car are, Its going to be a full spaceframe chassis under a full steel mini shell.
The engine is going to be a 1jz with r154 box and a single turbo, I have being looking into bits such as gt30 turbo, 264 cams, injectors, manifolds and so on. I would love to hear everyone's opinion on engine specs and what I should get.
To help keep to tyres from spinning I have a 2 way diff and will be running 13x10 wheels with semi slicks on the back and 13x7's on the front. Interior is going to be simple, custom made carbon or carbon/kevlar dash, kirkey seats, dash2 digital display, hydro handbrake, floor mounted pedalbox and that's about it for the interior. Suspension, I haven't really decided what to use yet.

Any way enough of that, I'll put up a few pics of the car and the work I have done to it so far.

This is what I started with.

My engine next to to original mini engine.

Started chopping the car to see how the engine fits.

The engine fits, and actually isn't too bad of a fit!

Yes the engine is under there!:P^^^

I got some steel to build a jig to hold the bits while I build it, they where kinda long!!

    All cut up.

    Welded up.

Shell and engine set up on the jig.

Thats all I have done so far, waiting for a bit of funds to get me moving again.
I will probably have another update in the next week or so.
Will have the main bit of my chassis done in the next month or so. Hopefully!

    Be back soon.

I've seen Busa engines added to minis to make them RWD, the issue being is that they don't drift very well due to the very short wheelbase.

Thats fine then where are you mounting the rad btw? You going to run the post '84 wheel arches? Im guessing you are going to tub the rear arches to allow for some proper width wheels!

Not to sound like I'm pissing on any chips. But a 1jz....modified....on 13" wheels - it isn't going to be much use.

I see this being a novel car to look at, but not so great at driving.

    Ya I was thinking that!
If the 13's wont do it il have to upgrade to 15's, i wont be doing that till its up and running tho!
what would you suggest to do?

Use a bigger car lol. No, I think it's a crazy idea - which makes it good! Just make sure you drink 4 redbulls before you go for a drive.

the rad is going to be where is usually is but the inter cooler is going to be outside the car where the grille should be!
yup that is the idea anyway, the car is going to have a fat ass!

surely you'd be better mounting the engine in the rear? free up room in the front for fuel tank/rad etc and you could mount the intercooler in the middle of the two rear side windows with cut outs to allow air to enter/exit??my two pence worth.

it'd also give you some much needed mass over the rear wheels...
