Drift MR2 AW11

Yup. I know "mr2s dont drift" but I have one, its 140bhp and rwd so I thought id give it a go.

Bought it like this:





Spent ages trying to get the locking wheel nuts off.

Made all the necessary vital drift modifications:

New front tyres


Thats it, rest is completely standard, open diff etc etc

Went to Norfolk for birthday skids..

Gave it death all day and didnt let me down once, if I wasnt on track I was queuing Went up to 70psi in the rears but I think I probably should have gone a tad higher.

Went to Skegness Stadium this weekend with Norfolk Drift Team and had a blast.

Definitely made another step up from my last time out at Norfolk and just had so much seat time and a track to myself

Grippy track and open diff lead to an early casualty



One tire fire lol had to get the hang of going the other way around to even it out for future laps. All in all I manged to eat 5 tyres this time out.

After last Norfolk day I had to make a very expensive and critical drift modification:

Nothing worth posting up yet.

Its my take on a "CG lock" bascially you pull the lap bit as tight as you can then cable tie both bits together next to the clip and you now have a fixed length seat belt that holds your arse in the seat a bit better.

In other news today I fixed my oil leaks (with free parts woo!)



and then rerouted my air feed because it was jubilee clipped straight to silicone hose so it fell off at skeggy also my engine bay gets massively hot so it must have been heat soaking.



Oh something else I havent mentioned, my throttle cable has been frayed since I bought the car so I loosened it off a bit to stop it breaking. There is a good chance I haven't experienced full throttle yet lol.

Nice thread! Dunno how it will be welding the diff as of course it is in the gearbox, should be fine I guess but never seen it or done it before.

Im not used to drifting other than MR2s so I couldnt tell you. I seem to be working a lot harder than anybody else does though, get a proper sweat on after a few laps lol. I love driving mr2s because they are very rewarding, hard to drive properly but when you do it makes you smile

I had a company quote me £50 to do it 2 months ago but I think they've changed their mind after initially promising to honor it. Seen a couple that have done it and I think a few in Japan must have judging by their driving lol.

As an aside moving the airfilter has made a huge difference. Must have been getting pretty bad heatsoak so I will be running future events with the engine cover off, hopefully that will keep things a bit cooler

Naught wrong with drifting the the mk1 as mine was very chuckable twas the lardy mk2 after that used to drift it's self on the way to work that was more challenging!

Definitely going better in this one than my last one Never got so much smokes out of the old mk2.

Suspension needs some love after skeggy it makes lots of creaks and rattles now so I suspect its polybush time, see if I can squeeze that in before 29th
