So, I thought it was about time I started a thread about my motor. Firstly, I bought a completely standard 1992 Nissan 200SX, CA18DET and all. It was a bit ropey, but i couldn’t complain at what it cost me. Picked up some other goodies: Looked at the engine as it wasn’t boosting properly, Timing was 2 teeth out and there was way too much end float in the bottom end: The idea was, drive it until it was died and then throw something better in there, so the search was on... So, finally got it on the road.... 4... yes, FOUR fucking days, and piston rings said bye bye. So, the CA was ripped out: And was replaced with something more suitable: Relocated battery: Welded Diff: Got bored whilst it was raining and had a search in the garage: Got it sat properly: Stickers do serve a purpose. They cover rust (note the retro goodness wheels, cont refuse a bargain): Finished bolting everything in under the engine bay, Boost controller was wired in: So were the gauges: Next was the tax and test. The car was finally on the road. Made such an economical tow car: Did some skids at the ring of steel: 2 hours later, after lending the car to a mate:
A donor car was coursed and collected. good nick and cheap Finally got this weekend free to start work on the car: I'd never realised how much shorter my new struts were: Ripped out a load of unnecessary wiring: Next, every persons favourite job: Finished product ended up alright though: Put my old strut brace back on to give an idea how bad the old shell was: The old bootlid has been swapped over so there is now minimal rust on the old girl.. And as I'm finished today, artsy pic of how my drive currently looks: As curiosity we weighed the stuff we pulled out the back of the car. 11kg of seats 9kg of assorted plastics 19kg of sound deadening Not bad for an afternoons work So this is how i now stand, I will continue to update as the car gets rebuilt. Please leave me your thoughts
ah!didn't see the second part of your post, shame about the blue one,was looking pretty nice.I bet your mate was in the bad books for a while! Better luck with the second car hopefully!!
was following this on TD was going well, its a shame but im sure this one will be just as good, you save the SR from the last one?
Fkin hell Tipper's all that effort getting the SR swap done and you did'nt even get to wreck it yourself Glad to see your back on it straight way man Rachie Pooh's mentioned a while back you might be struggling for a engine crane/hoist, give me a shout on FB if your still short man, mines not doing anything for the next few weeks
ha i was thinking of buying that red shell. was it as good as i figured? shame the blue one got bent.although it had seen some welding.
Hey Paul. Can't do anything with it until the degree is done but start of June if your crane is still free I may take you up on that offer. Gaz, superficial rust around the top of the screen and a 5p size patch in the rear arch. The underside will be fine after a good wire brushing. Was a bargain lol
good projet m8, nicce to see a little smash didnt stop u, even though it was your m8. are u still m8's?lol
So. After finishing my Dissertation on Friday I decided this weekend was to be spent on the car. First things first was replacing the fucked brake line. Old vs new. Got a complete new line made up in copper line for the car after this. Was funny driving to the motor factors in a friends mx5 with an 11foot brake line poking out the roof!: After this was fitting spacers, which involved making this pikey thing: And the result (et10 front et 13 rear): Today was more fettling. I pulled the front bumper off to cut it for my Front mount also had a play with how fucked the old bumper was: Relocated the loom in the arch so it doesn't get cut by the wheel. Not ye best job but better than it was: Never seen the inside of a Datsun arch look this clean: Added more spacers and played with my camber. Fitted my black splitter to the car as well: Now et0 front and et7 rear. Fits nice. Now for the last week finishing up the last bits oft degree and to locate an engine crane then it's time for the manual conversion and heart transplant
Looking nice dude, must of been pretty gutting to have your car mangled by a mate... but FUCK ME well done for getting straight on with it!
sucks about the previous shell!! but well done on not losing intrest.. i know i would have after doing all that work
I thought it may be time for an update.... So, ive finished uni so I have no excuse for working on the motor other than trying to find a job and BDC duties... So. Whilst waiting for an engine crane I stripped the engines down ready for removal and some wiring happened: All the wiring and battery lead is now run into the engine bay. I also removed this hunk of crap! Got hold of a crane on Monday and things happened: So the garage is now full of Datsun... Again While the engines out I swapped the steering bush for a solid item. The difference is pretty mental Then today I stripped what was left off the CA and swapped it for useful SR stuff. Also managed to shift some old bits for some cash. Deleted my turbo water lines and ran new shiny braided items: Done a few other bits and bobs on the engine as rain stopped play early. Hoping to get the manual conversion done and swap gearboxes over tomorrow. Hopefully with the engine going back on early next week. Watch this space...
So it's been one of those weeks. A broken foot and other problems have hankered progress on the car But things have happened From this: To this: Unfortunately we found whilst fitting the braided turbo lines the thread for the oil feed in the block has stripped. Trying to find someone to helicoil it and refit an appropriate banjo bolt to stop leaks. Swapped the bellhousings over onto my old CA box so I have 5 non-crunchy gears again. Also managed to do this whilst fitting my sandwich plate: New one arrived today so got everything back together: Then we got bored and with nothing to do things happened: The end result: The rest is drying so will have pics tomorrow
