Dan's E36 Becausedriftcar Hi guys, In december i purchased a standard e36 323i and never really thought it would go drift route. Since december ive done the following. Coilovers, 10mm spacers, tinted front fogs, cdv removed, hydro handbrake installed, cat back exhaust, smoothed front bumper, strut braces, fully adjustable top mounts plus loads of stupid parts like leds etc before i wanted it drift spec, diff is getting sorted april 29th When i bought it How she sits now, the rims and fog lights are getting changed to orange now Bit of drifty fun was poor as on an open diff :/ So car is going back to slide motorsport for the diff doing and a bit more work as i have booked my forst drift day May 5th with humberslide should be a great place to learn cant wait to get into this scene more and more just liked the car at first but ive caught the drift bug
Because i am serious about drifting i have sorted a unit out and move in tere may where the car will be coming off the road and i am buying a daily Any tips or advice muchly appriciated
Sounds as though you got into drifting the same way I did. I had a tidy, "stance.d" 318iS which went sideways once in the wet and I never looked back. Enjoy it
Haha i have wanted for a long time a 6 cylinder bmw and now im 21 insurance is semi sensible and exactly what you said happened i first found how tti fully unplug traction control and it rained the same day Highered the car up 20mm today was a nightmare had to take all the strut apart and add an extra cup ive lathed as my adjustable top mounts made the strut alot shorte and she wouldnt go on the trailor before and figured how to take out headlight in prep for drift day and changed the oil. Still got quiet a bit to do but all fun !!! How do you guys go about removing all the the air bag sensors under the back seat ???
Things are now really moving and its getting exiting time haha Well gotthe little unit sorted highly reccomend anyone get one 40 a month and perfect for a project, mines slightly liarget with 1 side wall been taken out and2 ft longer. The bmw fits in easily with 2 feet spare at 1 side ad tight other and 2 feet at front too, i can either roll front slightly out or back to work on it etc Also the trial fit on the trailor went well an she fit on nicely, also car is going tomorrow to Slide Motorsport again this time for the doff sorting then my first drift day next sunday !! I cant wait !!! Also bought myself a retro ae92 as a daily at a bargain price !!!
The car is at slide motorsport now and getting the following done diff, new polybushes around diff, bleed handbrake, take all airbag sensors and airbags out, disconnect steering wheel airbag, new part for the anti roll bar the car will be a trailor queen now i have the unit !! First drift day next sunday and sooooo exited cant wait !!!
Got the car back and it feels like a new car arrggghhhhh cant wait until sunday now !!!! This evening ive stripped all the back out too just got to heat gun the sound deadening of next
Replaced my solid top mounts wit te standard ones as the solid ones are knocking and under 5 miles on the standard ones and ooooppppsssssss. So i have bought some m3 cab top mounts and some reinforment plates but for now i have put the rattling ones back in ohhhhh the joys.... Great prep before this weekend !!!
What solid top mounts did you have mate? Did the sound proofing come out with heat? I was advised to use a chizel and hammer!?
Nahh used a heat gun well easier and not removed all weight stuff yet need to move more wiring first Basically i have solid ones that i bought on ebay one corner developed a tapping that really does you headin especially with soud deading taken out, so put standard ones back in and they lasted 4.8 miles !!!!! So solid ones are back in with the tappig ad also ordered some resr reinforecers and m3 e46 top mounts as im going to run them Just finished painting rims too Cant wait for hunmerslide on sunday!!!!
Looking really good mate. A friend of mine has an S13 which we stripped the other day. He said he's getting some dry ice to help remove his sound proofing meant to make things a lot easier.
Yeah ive got a heat gun so that should fine cant be arsed buying anything when i have heat gun but thanks alot for the info mate !! So ive had today off work and been working on the car and doing jobs trips larrr larrr, pucked rims up from unit brimmed the car of fuel and filled a jerry can etc. Also to help keeping the understeer down i took apart the front anti roll bar, i have also removed some more extra bits of weight that i didnt need. I already unplugged the traction control but today i took the whole unit off and fitted my strut brace Also bought another 4 rims that i am collecting on sunday Also my m3 top mounts and z3 reinforcer parts have arrived Big thanks to steve from elite developments for these !!!!
Youve removed the front ARB to reduce understeer? Bit of a backwards logic, by introducing more roll in the front your going to load the outside tyre MORE, not less, inducing more understeer. Your front understeers more likely down to worn LCA bushes (lollipops), bad tracking (dunno how your running yours) and minimal camber, I see youve got camber top mounts set to near enough zero.
No its not backward at all the more you soften the front arb or even temove it the more oversteer you get, it theory and practise its how i got my mates mk2 escort set up much nicer DIY-racetuning.net The ultimate tuning resource for Forza Motorsport 3 anti-roll bar (sway bar) - iRacing.com Wiki The softer you go on the front the more oversteer you get, try it !! Yeah i am changing the camber when i get there just because im using it on the road and dont want to mince the road rims its not understeering too much this has just made it kick out soo much nicer
Bit wierd why i put a forza link you may be thinking well im a bit of a gaming nut and really into forza and all i do is spend my life tuning cars, plus with our rally car experience etc. one thing in life i can do is set up a car !!
