Car started standard with 65k on the clock, FSH, every mot, new hood, clean car! Slapped some cheap coilovers on and some new Rotas, front spliter & twin exit exhaust. And a full service for good measure (Y) Soon got bored of gaying around and got myself up santapod with the stock LSD soon after this my years insurance was up & had to get myself a van for work and tools due to going self employed so a lot of my money went into this so car was put in a garage on the back burner :/ This is where I demented to get some upgrades on the go! 4 point cage welded diff seats hydro new wheel with a stupid 200mm sun strip! solid engine mounts solid diff mounts rx8 injectors boost gauge LCD gauge that shows me oil temp, oil pressure, AFR & outside temp rack spacers & so on soon replaced these lines with some hel flexi lines Then I couldn't resist and decided on the supercharger route, m45 charger is from the cooper s works with Teflon blades All stand alone megasquirt ecu with front mount intercooler, 17% reduction pully, rx8 450cc injectors. Should be around the 215bhp 200lb torque, plenty in a mx5 if u ask me! Have been booted out the garage to back on driveway now :/ sold softop and got myself a hardtop on All comments welcome!
bad man idea. looks so much easier to go down the supercharged route. how easy has it been to get parts, etc for it?
It's been ok, not cheap by any means! Chap in Stroud does the fitting kit, bracket, inlet, outlet, tensioner for £500, charger cost me £300, ecu £500 so with all other bits it's gunna be around the 2k mark :/ but from others I've been in its worth it!
if you want more power and don't mind modding shit, the m45 snout will bolt onto the m62 charger body. It would require a bit of work to work but would mean you make ALOT more power
Good call on supercharger, it's miles better for drifting than turbo, better than even a turbo with a hell of a lot more power in fact in my experience.
The m45 does the job for now, I can't justify spending 2k on the charger alone! That's what the 62 goes for
Yea been in a few cars and there no feeling like a charged one, you know when you got the power unlike a turbo car off boost it's kinda unexpected :/ I will keep this thread up to date when more happens
2k ! don't know where you have been looking but you can get them for sub 300 quid all day long on ebay !
Done abit if cutting around in the loom yesterday to get rid of the crap I don't need, also got my IAT sensor drilled and in place. Next update with all inter pipes connected up
Also got the new radiator system filled up with new fluid so I don't get any frozen water in the block over these cold nights!
Got some earths and lives sorted regarding my gauges and a quick test with ignition shows I've got a couple of wires the wrong way ha! Quick swap and it was back to normal but you get the jist of what's going on
Interested in the details of the guy that makes the fitting kit.. Im really tempted to do this to mine!
It's not quite as simple as bolt on I'm afraid :/ google it bud and get on mx5nuts for all the info your gunna need
Reminds me of mine! I had a Jackson Racing setup on my 1.6, so was bolt on, took about half a days work to get the car up and running, used a powercard to sort the ignition and fuelling, went pretty good, about 170/180bhp I reckon.
