So after owning a fair few drift cars in the past i decided to buy another 14a and make it my own, I bought the car with some issues and have since been working my way through them and (hopefully!) improving the car in the process.. Started with this, Came with multi coloured rusty panels, horrific idle problem, boost leak galore and a laundry list of problems to come.
The first thing i did was remove the standard intercooler and fit an FMIC in an attempt to lose the boost leaks! Also relocated the battery to the boot..
Changed a Wheel Hub due to a knackered bearing and fitted Driftworks arms.. Then got rid of the standard interior in favour of some bucket seats (Definatley don't use the floor as a tool box)
Fitted some slightly better wheels! Bought some quick fixes and drifty parts And fitted a rear strut brace to help stiffen things up! More to come!
This is where the whole project changed! I got fed up of rusty multicoloured panels so decided to try a DIY paint job, the aim was to make it all one colour and look reasonably decent for not a lot of money. In the process fitting some side skirts and modifying the front bumper as id seen a mod i liked Heres what happened! Sanded the whole thing down, then for primer! I always wanted it to be easy to repair if it got wounded drifting, so decided on a matte colour. Here was the first coat: Ignore the skirts as their replacements were painted separately!
I did some modification to the front bumper just to see how it looked Then test fitted it with the sideskirts and splitter fitted to the car
I was having some issues with arch rubbing and got offered the use of an arch roller the day after i had finished painting it! (DOH) So i rolled the rear arches: During doing everything above i was trying to diagnose an idling problem, becoming increasingly frustrated but cleaning sensors and replacing parts.. it would idle fine on startup but if you approached a junction and pressed the clutch the revs would drop and often the car would stall. I Tried: Replacing the IACV Deleting the carbon canister Replacing the MAF Checking the TPS voltage None of these worked! Then i decided to trace the loom to look for broken wires, Feeling very stupid for not doing this first i found broken wires from tyre rubbing! So i did my best at repairing them! After doing this i started the car and was chuffed to find that the fault had been fixed! Got alot of other things to do but i have all winter to do them as crail is closed till next year now Watch this space
Got another day to play with it today so started putting the front end back together, one of the headlight brackets was damaged so waiting for the glue to set before adding that to the mix.. note none of it was bolted on in the pics it was just a test fit! I also test fitted a spoiler i was given but I'm not really sure if i like, any opinions welcome on it! Fitted the new hydro mount and bolted the handle in, then put her to bed.. will attempt plumbing it in next weekend if i can find a non confusing guide on how to do it!
Also picked these two up from jay coupe as my sparco seats were too wide for the rails, meaning my head touched the roof!
