| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Andy_F's S13 project [Pics, 56k not a good idea] Well, as some of you may remember I've already had a go at an S13 project (here) which failed miserably. So, this time, I've learned from my mistakes. I decided to spend a bit more than last time, with a rough budget of about 1k (but for that much money I would have expected it to be pretty special) so when one turned up on ebay being sold 20 miles away from me, I jumped at the opportunity. For £800, I now have the keys for a 1990 RS13, 109k, T28 tubby off an S14, little to no rust (only a small patch on the bootlid as usual), big ends have been done quite recently, other than the turbo (plus an manual boost controller) the car is pretty much standard from what I can tell. I'm really happy with the condition, especially for the price. The sills are still original, and theres only one bit of repairwork (about 10cmx5cm on the underside, plate welded in) from what I can see. Its MOT'd until june next year too. It drives really nice, not at all how I would have expected from an old car. It was a fun drive home. The list of things to do right now is pretty limited, considering I'm completely out of green. So i'll be doing a few bits and pieces I can do for free/cheap. First off will be to get it up on some ramps and treat any rust I can find, as theres a few patches of surface stuff under there, remove the spoiler and sort out the boot. Then I can get on with the good stuff like taking out some of the interior, and I'll also fabricate myself an exhaust in the not too distant future as I'm not too bad with a welder, and the standard exhaust is hilariously pathetic. Then i'll get onto some more heavy stuff when I have the funds. Time for a few piccies. ![]() The area of welding work - I'll be re-welding this at some point ![]() Tucked up nicely in my lockup ![]() ![]() Much better engine bay than last time, tiny bit of rust removal and touch up welding needed on the very top of the turrets, about a 5mmx5mm patch on the left side, the other side had already been treated with a bit of silicone. ![]() Nice shiny T28 ![]() ![]() The spoiler rust ![]() Quick shot under the car, a slightly moist sump. Its not dripping though in the slightest, the patch of oil on the floor you see is from my old car ![]() My two cars, new one on the right, old non-runner on the left, which should hopefully be gone next month, and I should have my money back... the legal system takes forever. Thanks for reading, more updates to come. Last edited by Andy_f : 01-07-2007 at 18:15. |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Well, I've just gone out for a brief drive, but with a heavier right foot now. It puts such a big smile on my face ![]() One thing I did notice was the turbo lag... it seems as flat as a fart below about 3,200, then once it hits about 4,000 its flying as I would expect. I don't have much experience with turbo cars so I don't really know what to think. Should I expect this kind of lag? Is it easy to reduce it? |

| doughnutter | my mates with a t28 on his s13 is quite laggy, but you can feel it spool up. then as you say...BAAAAMM HOLD ON TO UR CACKS! we need to sort his fueling with a walbro 255, new exhaust gasket, FMIC, BOV and some timing. i wouldnt have thought a t28 on a 1.8 should be that laggy either but hopefully, with those extra mods it should be ok.fingers crossed. |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Done a few minor things today. Relocated the number plate to the windscreen and set up the sleepy eye bodge, thanks to the Option Video guide, a nice easy 10 minute mod. Makes it look a bit meaner too. ![]() Also removed the rear wiper and prepped the boot for repair and kurust'ed it. What I thought was only a small patch of rust turned out to be a 10x10cm hole (it only just fits under the bit of card I covered it with).![]() Finally soaked the exhaust bolts in WD40 this evening to try and get them off tomorrow, I had a quick go today and there was no budging them. Also hooked it up to an old boost gauge to see what it was boosting too, and its currently making a nice, safe 0.35 bar. ![]() Last edited by Andy_f : 16-08-2006 at 19:42. |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Well, I've spent the last few days dicking about with the bootlid, but I think the time it took was worth it. I'm pretty pleased with it considering I'm normally crap at this kind of thing and my patience is usually very thin to start with. The main hole. ![]() After bridging and filling. ![]() Smoothed. ![]() Ready for priming. ![]() Masked up. ![]() Primer'd. ![]() Coloured. ![]() Loving the colour match. I just picked the lightest metallic green they had.![]() Before: ![]() After: ![]() The colour match wasn't actually that bad once it had dried... if you looked at it from the right angle. Finished off the day by starting to strip it out. Just managed to get the seats and some of the uphoulstry out, plus the rear seatbelts. ![]() Last edited by Andy_f : 22-08-2006 at 23:29. |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Finished taking the interior out today, carpet gone, all trim gone, roof lining gone, only things left are the dash and the passenger 'oh shit' handle. Also spotted a cheapy cheap steering boss in Halfrauds, £12 to fit all the common makes. Now I just need a wheel. Anyone got any tips for removing the standard wheel? |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Wohoo 3 way diff! Lots of struggling to get the driveshafts out of the receiving cups on the diff, but I finally got the bastid out this morning. Should hopefully be giving it some proper drift practice some time this week. ![]() Hmm what happens if I shove this in here? Big Last edited by Andy_f : 02-09-2006 at 18:17. |
