Hello everyone, a couple of years ago my two cousins decided to buy a 1989 facelift Nissan 300ZX Z31 with the intention of turning it into a drift car. Well not to much happened in them two years, but the project has finally been resurrected, myself and my two cousins are splitting the cost to try and get it to a good enough standard to go drifting. Bare in mind this is a budget build and nearly all work will be completed by us. Although we will be putting some good cash flow into it if really needed to get it spot on. Here is a few pictures of from when it was bought: Like I say, the car had sat for a couple of years since then, but the car still fires up first time, every time even now! We have stripped alot of the car, we won't be running the back bumper, all sound deadening, interior, ABS, air con etc etc has been removed from the car, basically anything that isn't needed has is going or already gone! A whole lotta wiring....gone! We have started to refurb the brakes, we will be replacing all brake lines, and also fitting an hydraulic handbrake: As expected for such an old car, there is alot of rust removal, welding etc to be done, first task we cut out some of the rust from under the bonnet and welded in some new plates: Panel under the rear drivers side window: More parts cleaning: Full polybush kit: Another section of rust cut out from the rear boot, we will be using pins for the boot and bonnet: - - - Updated - - - Front splitter was rotted to hell, Robert had managed to cut it all out: Bonnet tidied up: - - - Updated - - - Getting some practice in!!
Cool project - Lose a bit of weight and it should be quite good. Are you going to put a cage in as that will be flexing all over the shop being a targa top! I can help with Coilovers if you keep the front struts. Make conversion sleeves for old cars like these, any brand of coilover you like! Think S13 ones are the best fitment for Z31's A few pics of cool ones iv'e seen.

A few more updates: We have spent today removing the fuel tank from the car and painting over some of the body work that has been done to protect it until the full re-spray (cannot wait for that bit)! Also testing that Andrew's CAD drawings match up in order to get our customer front and rear strut brace made up: Next week we will be cleaning up the fuel tank, fitting a new Walbro fuel pump, new hoses, and cleaning and painting as much of the underside as possible. Also removing more sound deadening from the back and hopefully getting the boot of the car cleaned up and sprayed. Next job is to get the back axle of the car and start cleaning that up, and getting our polybushes fitted, as well as getting some coilovers and adapters made up.
Today's job was cleaning up the fuel tank, we have managed to get the top half done, needs one more coat and then we need to flip it for the other side. We will be replacing the fuel pump as well to a Walbro 255 version. Before: After: Also cleaned up the straps: We also finished filling in the holes on the front bumper, looks a mess at the min but once it's all sanded back and painted will be like new! Treated the car some more goodies! Hydraulic handbrake: Brake flaring kit to re-do all the brake lines: Bumper bands/tow strap: Go faster mushroom sticker: Wezmoto braided brake lines: 8 new caliper pistons for the refurbished brakes: Next week we will get round to finishing our home made trolley jack. Hi mate, yeah it is a turbo model. Yours looks very cool! What was it like to drive? We have not managed to get ours over 5 mph yet lol! How did you find getting hold of parts for it? Also is that a custom intercooler set-up? How did you go about routeing it?

Brave man, I wouldn't drift one of them tho. Something as rare as that should be on the road. There's not many of them in Ireland.
Well today has consisted of Robert building the dolley! Very nearly there, just short of another piece of wood to help support it. Also more brake refurbishing: We're hoping for a big day tomorrow, with the plan being: Get the dolley finished Drop the whole back axle Get the dolley under the car Some more welding Rest of the fuel tank cleaned up
Well, what a day today! Spent today tackling the rear sub frame and finishing the dolly to get under the car. It consisted of a lot of swearing, and heart in mouth moments. We had to constantly keep moving the jacks and thinking of ways to raise the car in order to rotate the dolly underneath. But we finally managed it, took all day but here it is, first off the sub frame being dropped: Heart in mouth balancing act No more handbrake: Not quite sure if this exhaust will be loud enough hmmm? The Dolly works a treat, should now allow us to get the whole underside nice and clean, route new brake lines, new vaccum pipes, clean up the sub-frame, fit coilovers, polybushes etc
