MX30 Cressida vr6 build i'll start of with myself because im new here , My name is Sigurbergur (im called Burger) and im 22 years old and live in iceland (where cool cars are hard to comeby and are waaaay exspensive) any way i have owned many cars rwd,fwd and 4wd and my pride and joy is a syncro vr6 here´s a pic of it {} {} {} but anyway heres my story Well it all started last summer when i wanted to find a car to build a driftcar out off , i had owned a e28 527 it was fun for a while and after that car i had the 4 door saloon stuck in my head as a good platform and i started to look for a mx62 cressida since i liked the shape of them called every single one here in iceland and they were either not for sale or had been thrown away so i scratched that idea but one last phone call and i ended up with not one but two mx32 ! which was even better because i thought they were all rusted and gone here in iceland i liked that body way better then the mx62 too ! the red one i tore down just for parts because it was so rusty and nasty but it was manual and the green one was auto this is from when i got them in the winter {} after that i just threw them in my garage and they stood there for some time because i was living in reykjavik and the garage was in keflavik and i was in school so i had little time for them, but then i was offerd a garage in reykjavik so i took it and something could be done ! there they are in the new garage {} {} {} {} then i had to tear the red one down because i couldnt keep it in the garage for long so i started the pics tell their story {} i live on the edge lol {} {} the diff is so small and cute lol {} love the look of it ! {} then i tore the engine out and what a heavy old beast ! {} {} soo much room for something fun ! {} {} SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES !!!!!! {} i took the gearbox and cleaned 34 year old dirt and grime of it look fairly good afterwards {} continueing in the next post
then i threw the red body and it only weighted 380 kg's with all the doors ,gastank and the front windsheild [ cleaned the red carpet as i wanted to use it test fitted my bucket its manual ! this is all i have right now as im just waiting on brake parts to get the car inspected , im going to swap a fun engine in it probable before the next drift season here in iceland just wanted to share this with the driftworkers cheers from iceland !
all the suspension and diff and that stuff is the same as the ae86 basicly , this dosent have a steering rack though might change that someday but this came in today after 3 weeks of waiting so i can get it up and driving after sitting since from 1996 lol
did the front brakes today , no pictures though :/ its not exciting anyway haha . broke one brake line so i couldnt test the new brakes today and had little time cause i had to be at the track to open and supervise the drift practis will be doing work tomorrow will take pics then
Well got the front brakes sorted today and did a little bit of work ,took it for a test drive and i still need to check the rear brakes again ones not brakeing here are some pictures what i did put the front bumper on and the under the bumper thingy haha and took the gas tank out and cleaned it , since i didnt know if it had dirt in it or other things , i at least shed some weight since there was tonn of dirt on top of it haha
im going to remove the steering stopper to start with to get some more angle on the front , then ill need to start sorting alot of bushings and stuff
well the project goes on ive done a few things and its starting to drive good just need to finish a few things and is good to go for the winter i had changed the brakes in the rear with everything new but did get the pump right away and the old one was stuck, so got the new one and fitted it forgot to take a picture of the new one though changed these bushings as the old ones were completely gone and these are stiffer too crusty rusty all the surface rust are these identical to the ae86 struts ? the interior MAAAAAROOOOOOON ! love it ! also made a new exhaust side exit lol ! https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152445576643152
Well just bought a megasquirt for the engine thats going in it since im going to throw boost at it at some time , i wanted to learn how these things work , learn how to make a fuel and sparktable so i bought it and im going to wire it up and try tuning it myself
yeah i bought a ms2 for my golf 2 years ago since its allways been the plan on turboing it , which is happening this winter but i didnt want to do it myself and screwing it up so a man here in iceland that puts them together is doing it for me and i figuered i would learn myself on the pos driftmissle/car haha , trial and error is probable how i have learned most of my car related things soooo im going to give it a shot
soooo i did some stuff today , was going to do more but then i realised that i had to take almost the whole rear axle apart to get the diff out haha painted the tank then started tearing down the rear axle i think ill have to machine some bushing for the "four link" any suggestions out of what material ? thanks for reading . Burger
have been doing some small things the last days before my inspection , finished fixing the rotted sils will do it again later better , fixed the lights and did something about the horrible steering lock the photos are after i removed the stopper bolt haha ill remove the other stopper later i know the tire is the wrong way around ill fix that when i start driving the car so next up is the inspection tomorrow
well the inspection didnt go as planed , the handbrake still needed a litle work (sorted now) , the light took a shit and they didnt like my side exit exhaust lol so bought new light's (going to put yellow bulbs in them like on the passanger side in the pic) its getting there made exhausty thing´s its exhausting hehehe used my vr6 muffler then i took it for a spin and the first hit of a skid the spring perch gave away so i had to fix that orginal broken and i sorted it like this for now , going to make a good pair later thanks for reading
