So here's wat I started with [IMG]

It was built by my dads and used as a track/road toy , so had a good base to start with . So I basically stripped it back to shell and started again . Then this happened [IMG]

This is awesome. Don't you know Robby Knight with the Mantra? Think I saw this when I sold him some wheels.

If you're on your iphone use tapatalk, it costs some money but it's good for browsing forums and stuff.

So then went on to getting the engine and box mounted , I wanted to chassis mount it so that I could change crossmember remove sump etc without removing the engine . [IMG]

So yeh that was it all mounted up , now on to the wiring ..... So I went on the hunt for a wiring diagram but with only basic knowledge on looms ect I found myself a little confused . Anyway went on and had ago myself then found out about a local guy who was great at making looms ect so drafted him in to have a look . I wanted to retain the original ford loom and just create a engine loom that would just plug in and I also wanted to turn on the key no switch turning fuel pumps on ect just jump in turn the key jobby . Anyway after A few days we had it all wired up .

Next up was to get the intercooler mounted and connect up .

Sorted fuel pumps ,lines and swirl pot out and wired it up

So then it was ready .... And boom started was super happy . time to strip all down to get cage in and ready for paint .

Before i got the inside and bay painted I stripped off all the old underseal and gave it a re coat . No rust was found

Cheers man :) sweet have you got a build tread goin ?

paint came out great now on to putting it all back together first off the the cage ,loom , pedalbox, brakes and lines .

So then on to gettin the engine back in......

    :)

Bought some new headlights as the original were pretty done , next up was to get the intercooler and rad in , i used a big rs500 intercooler and a gp4 new alloy rad . Was a very tight fit :s In Fact I had to machine the bottom crank pulley down so I bought a alloy one off ebay . It worked a treat and made anoth room for a electic fan .

Was starting to come together now , so I moved on to getting the inside sorted . Had to finish a little bit of wiring mainly gauges water /oil temp / oil pressure and boost , I also want to fit a fire extinguisher for a little more safety and if I decided to take part in some comps it was up to spec .

Then went back to finishing the engine bay .

Ok so I'm doing the exact same thing! Ha, but mines staying in full road trim, etc. collected the engine today and it looks like it'll be a tight fit, I was wondering how high it sits in the engine bay??

Tbh it's not a bad fit although I had a large gp4 gearbox tunnel already fited which made things easier. They are quite tall engines but I managed to keep the sump level with the crossmember , good luck with the build you won't regret it :)

So anyway with the engine pretty much done and just the windows and seats to get in I moved on to gettin the prop and exhaust made up . I sent the prop to a local engineer to get the s14 gearbox end fitted to a big single prop I had from the old ford type 9 box , while I was waiting for this I got on with the exhaust so bought aload of 3inch stainless of the net and a s14 downpipe as it was cheap .

I want to use 3inch as better for flow and ment I could up the power of the standard motor and not worry about changing the exhaust, also want to use a ford cosworth backbox as I didn't wat a big jap can hanging off the back . I wanted to keep the noise down aswell due to limits at tracks .

So with a little mod i managed to get the downpipe to fit

I decided to go under the axle as was to much hassle trying to get it over and having anoth clearance.

Then prop came back and was spot on so got that fitted up and finished off the exhaust.

I like that exhaust, I'm not ashamed to say it.....that ideas getting borrowed, ha. What about strengthening the shell?? I've been advised to get some plates welded in to help stop it twisting.

I'm going to get the engine first and keep it on a stand, as I think i'm going to upgrade a few bits like T28r Turbocharger, Rebuilt bottom end, Rocker stoppers, Oil filter and spark plugs. Then I will gather running gear parts and then start on the shell prep.

I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Are you using the standard mk2 escort rear end and axles. And what colour have you painted the car, is it a ford red? :)

Yeh good shout , yeh still using standard English axle with lsd but just sold the lsd as I'm goin for a 3j nxg as the tran x was not up to the job . Still on standard shafts aswell . Yeh car was painted the original ford radiant red . Forgot to say as far as strengthing the shell I added front top strut plates and front chassis leg gussets , obviously the cage as some strength to the shell . Will try get the thread up to date as will explain more of wat I've done and wat I have redone .

I think i'm going to use the English axle then. Depending on price I might look into 3j nxg. Will this work with Gaz coilovers though? Do you think the standard shafts will keep going or will you have to brace them?

Colour wise i'm stuck really, I would like to go with radiant red or Nissan emerald green. Cheers for that i'm going to add custom made strut braces & plates. Custom made anti roll bars and roll cage. What kind of advantages would chassis leg gussets give me?

With every thing pretty much done all I had to do was to get the bonnet painted as it getting damaged in storage but the only paint I had about was black so that had to do . Didn't look to bad

the time was here :) finally got to take it for a blast . All went great but there was few little issues mainly brakes were shocking and tracking was miles out .
after I sorted all the issues I got a mot ,sorted some insurance and used it for a few weeks on the road but couldn't wait to get a drift day booked up .

Finally got a drift day at lydden hill booked up and couldn't wait to get out there and use it properly :p

So had a blast at lydden but did have a couple problems :( boost controller started playing up turned out to be loose wire so got that sorted . then the rear drums kept locking up . So decided the handbrake was a no go . After anoth sesson out it was clear that I had done some damage to the rear diff , not locking up properly and just generally doin billy one wheelers ha was like being out with a open diff . So called it a day :(
