Evening all, thought I would start a thread on my Drift Rod project for next year, I spent the last few years in a mk2 escort and decided to do something outside the box to mix it up a bit. Im not building it to any regs or rules, its will be used for drift demos, practice days and possibly the odd RDC round. Its basically going to be a space framed hot rod with an open front, sat really low and wide built solely for drifting. I have a really cool design for the front end which I've not seen on any rods before but you will have to wait until its welded on to see it. Its gonna be running a 4cyl turbo engine, either zetec or vauxhall, volvo 240 axle struts and brakes and a load of other random bits and bobs I have lying around. I think Its gonna be the first proper drift rod but I may be wrong. Here's a few Pics[/IMG]
I have about a day left on the floors then I can start bending up some hoops and get cracking on the cage. Thanks for looking
ahhhh sick! me n a mate have been going on about doing this for years.... one day i'll build one haha. fabrication looks tidy so far.
very nice, good to see something unusual ! What makes you want to go zetec or vaux engine ? Plenty of other turbo engines that are alot better
Thanks for the comments chaps, im hoping to have all the cage and front end done over christmas and new year so you will be able to get a better idea of what it will look like. I built a c20let for my escort, it was cheap and awesome! Il put up a vid of it, I think they are one of the best engines about in na or turbo, the zetec option would be easy because I have one setup for rwd already and a friend of mine has built a few 400 bhp engines which I could copy. nothings set in stone so if something interesting comes up I might put something else in. I was looking into a diesel v8 that was on ebay but the weight and lack of revs put me off.
The C20let is getting expensive now, you can pick up saab turbo engines for faaar less money and tune them yourself for 400 bhp. if it goes bang another from the scrappy is only 200 quid at the most.
the v6 omega box bolts right up, the saab b204 engines had a vauxhall bellhouse pattern. So any box you would use with the C20 you can use with the saab engines
my dads ford pop is certainly different, but this may exceed that will certainly view this regularly. im not the best welder ect but somtimes i do some good stuff. when i look at this kind of work i think fuck. mine wasnt so good after all LOL
