Story begins a couple of weeks ago where I was looking for a small daily as the RX-8 I have is killing me in fuel. I ended up looking around a garage and spotted something nestled in the corner forgotten about. It turns out the car was imported into the UK in 2004 and was never registered over here or driven and just sat in a yard for 10 years. Aside from a rusty battery tray the body appears to be rust free, which is good. {} {} {} {} {} After a month or two of dealing with the DVLA and HMRC I finally picked the car up on the weekend. {} {} {} Got it pressure washed and cleaned inside. {} {} Random crap inside {} Poked around/through the battery tray {} Started tackling the fuel system today, ripped the fuel pump out, it did not look good {} The fuel tank also has rust inside it, so that needs to be cleared out, any tips for removal of rust would be much appriciated.
take the whole tank out and give it a proper clean, its only held in by a few bolts This thread made me smile so far. Theres something very awesome about seeing cool cars saved.
What are the plans? Get it on the road running reliably and daily it as is? Some low and 15 or 16s in 4 stud would look spot on These are nice: SSR Rebirth mesh16 -inch( that time thing,8J,9J)4 hole4ps.: Real Yahoo auction salling
Current plans are convert to 5 stud hubs, source brakes from an R32 GTS-T, throw on some 17's. Get everything else working as it should, replace all rubber fuel lines etc etc. Weld up battery tray and generally get it road ready and take it in for an MOT. Get it registered. Long term I'd like to drop an RB25DET in with a manual box
This is a cracking good story, a+ for going throu the bollox with dvla nice one Bud if you want to 5 stud it I have r32 GTST 5 stud hubs here with brakes if you want them £180 the lot
So this dealership also had an SN95 Mustang and lancia delta integrale as well as a 4dr R32 !!!!??? Nice project, can't wait to see it progress
@Ed Technically there were two Lancia's there's also a Toyota Levin sat around somewhere along with a front end damaged Mitsi GTO In other news, the rust removal products from Bilt Hamber arrived, so hopefully I will be dropping the fuel tank today and giving that a good clean out, along with the fuel pump carrier. I also picked up some R32 GTST brakes and 5 stud hubs from @shelbz S14A who was a top bloke and even threw in a couple of extra wheel nuts, just need to save for some wheels now!
On Thursdays these guys arrived so this weekend I cracked on and dropped the fuel tank {} As expected it was full of crap {} {} On a plus side, the underside didnt look bad {} {} {} Threw some corrosion eating gel on the fuel pump carrier, we'll see how this turns out {} Disassembled the R32 GTST brakes ready to get the calipers painted {} {} Hopefully the Deox-C will clear the rust from the fuel tank, time will tell
