Stage 2 Ok so the car is finished as far as a budget drift racer goes Stage 1 of the project saw the car transformed from a bog standard car with no MoT, a misfire, coolant and oil leaks, rusty sills and tailgate, and a knocking subframe back in February, to its first practise day at Teeside and its first competition (the TrampDrift1000) last weekend ![]() Spec of car as it stands now: 1990 UK 200SX with original, unopened CA18 with 92k miles K&N induction kit NGK #7 spark plugs Apex frontpipe Apex type 1 exhaust Apex boost valve, 15psi peak DW subframe bushes DW rear arm bushes (4 fitted, damn they're a PITA )Superflex steering rack bushes Tein HA(?) suspension, front camber adjustable topmounts Whiteline rear anti roll bar +25mm longer wheelstuds, ali wheelnuts, 25mm spacers all round Unknown 15x6.5 alloys with 205/55/15 tyres Welded diff, diff cooler removed Arches rolled and flared (badly) Matt black roof and boot De-spoilered Holes in front bumper, crash bar removed, relocated numberplate Sleepy-eye Random stickers applied, usually to cover up defects in paintwork Lamppost mark on front left wing, cone mark on front right corner Interior stripped Recaro super-skinny bucket seat on DW superlow subframe Luke 6 point harness DW handbrake button and grip tape 2ltr fire extinguisher Autogauge boost gauge, jammed in hole in dash ![]() ---- So thats where I'm at right now. I'm aiming to compete in Eurodrift (cant imagine I'll be good enough for D1) next year, so this is the diary of taking it beyond initial drift-worthy prep and into the realms of a competetive race car ![]() I'm going for: Suspension/geometry parts and setup Roll cage Compliance with Eurodrift regs More power (T28 / FMIC / stage 2 chip) Better wheels (wider, bigger, more sticky-outy offset, better looking) Paint and graphics Will be starting work on the rollcage tonight ![]() Edit - Stage 1 diary is here: http://www.driftworks.co.uk/forum/sh...ad.php?t=13601. Some of the pictures are missing but the general gist of it is all there ![]() Last edited by Pikey : 02-10-2006 at 15:23. Reason: link to first build diary

Top stuff, best of luck with it ![]() I suck at advice but from experience i've found suspension setup, wheel and tyre sizes have been a huge help to me. So spend all your cash on suspension, tyres and maintanence to keep everything running spot on then worry about more power when you want to get into D1 ![]()

No testage yet, but I'll report as soon as I do. I have done my first burnout though Paint is going the opposite way Stavros - bright offensive colours, with shiny sparkly vinyl! And I might get a fibreglass bonnet, one of the Chargespeed ones with a vent, so the bonnet's staying as it is for now. But the roof and boot are staying matt black regardless ![]()

Roll cage building = Spent last night looking at various parts of the car, much pondering and discussions! Looks like we're going to weld plates to the car floor rather than bolting through, which means the sound-deadening has to come out around the places we're going to weld. I wasnt planning on doing this, but once I got started with a large lump hammer and a chisel there was no stopping me Three quarters of an hour later, and there's no sound deadening backwards of the front seats And all the metal under it is perfect Also ripped out what I thought was the wiring to the rear washerjet and wiper, but its was actually the heated screen so I guess there's nothing stopping me getting the Chargespeed plastic window and FRP boot now The template for the main hoop is made, just got to find out what to make it from in order to comply with (probably) D1 regs ![]()

New T25 is on the way, I think for now I'll just stick with a standard one. So obviously I need to strip the old one off, so what's the first thing I did this afternoon - put my new wheels on, obviously :Cant believe how perfect they fit The wheels are Rota 'Grid's, bronze, 16x8, offset +10, and I hope you agree they look the part MASSIVE props to Julian (RareRims) for sorting me out with a killer deal Rears are having used tyres fitted at my bro's garage next week, so no pics of them yet, but as soon as I get the car working again I'll put up a pic of me smoking them up ![]() | |

New T25 arrived this morning, so we whipped the old one off, and it's completely knackered - the shaft is broken in two So the new one looks in fine condition, not bad for £60 delivered Took the plugs out and they're all fouled up with oil, so new ones on order. Also, I discovered that the new head-manifold gaskets I put on about 1500 miles ago - I put three of them on upside down and they're ever so slightly asymmetric so I was restricting the exhaust flow quite considerably as well as not sealing them properly. So new ones of those on order too. Will use this opportunity to change the oil aswell. Graphics have been progressing, but thats top secret for now ![]() As soon as I can drive the car again, I'll take it to MechRepairs for it to have a roll cage fitted, seeing as a) the tax ran out and Ive SORNed it, and b) Ive missed my chance to do the SVA Challenge. While that's going on I'll have the final designs for the graphics so it'll roll out of Mech in a month or so's time looking like a racing car at last, I hope Watch this space
