Hi just thought I would link across to my new shiny blog I started about my project, its a MK2 being built up with the premise of cheap reliable power, comfy (for a escort) that I'm building to just daily mostly but take to as many track days, drift days and shows as I can next year

Hi mate, im gonna be doing the same conversion in a few weeks, im running one in a hot rod at the moment. few questions for you, what volvo valve springs do you use and are you completely removing the balance shafts or just the chain that drives them? They need to rev a bit higher thats for sure, do you know what they can safely rev to with standard springs? Cheers Matt

Hi Matt, the drift rod is epic, what did you do with the water pipes running out of the back of the head? Looked through your build and can't figure it out from the pics

As for the valve springs I'll look into it and see if I can find the part no. I don't intend to remove them as it seams to cause some oil pressure issues if you don't get it 100% right, if your rebuilding the engine then I would definitely remove them completely, if your just doing some work on it then leave them in and remove the chain, theres still some oilways to block off but it doesn't seam too bad, just a few holes to tap and screw in a grub screw.

    Volvo 9135130

Apparently there's no need to change the springs unless your fitting cams or adjusting the timing on your standard cams to optimize the flow above 6k

    Standard cams and springs 6.5k
    Standard cams timed better 7.5k
Aftermarket cams I think are about 8k but can't remember

I cut off the outlet sticking out the back and plugged it, then cut and rewelded the thermostat housing to face forward, cheers for the info, you got any specific info on cam timing?

Thanks, sadly not any info on cam time, I think it would need to be done on a dyno to get it set up the best though. Could you do me a favour and take some pics of your set up? It's one of the problem areas of the MK2 as I'm sure you know, pictures would be a massive help

Not yet Matt, still working on getting the car painted first, as soon as its painted and the glass is back into the shell safely, then its time to get the Saab in and stripped and the engine into the escort. it shouldn't take long to get it in, the longest part will be making sure the engines straight and level before making the mounts and then making up the sump. not looking forward to making the sump to be honest.

Well in the mean time heres a post about some LSD
