haha yeah borrowed a mates engine hoist only to find that the car was too close to the wall an we couldn't get the hoist in but clever me had lent the wheels and jack for a friend so when we tried to move the car with the hoist it all got a bit exciting!
Really like this however are you not meant to remove the original door and arch skins ? Like where the old ones are will prevent wider wheels/tyres from sitting flush.
i didn't want to remove the door skins as the only benefit would be to save weight with respect the the wheel arches i had to take off a little because it was in the way on the new one. as I'm not changing the inner wheel arch my plan is to put a plate in to connect the inner arch to the new outer one. I'm not very good at putting my ideas into words but all will become clear in the pictures when i either fuck it up or it works
im a joiner by trade so I'm just making it up as i go along. got the full day in the garage tomorrow so will have some more pics
Sorry but I meant like there will be a few inch wide lip on your arch? Does that not mean your wheel will have to sit inside the arch and not be able to go within a few inches of flush as it would still be based upon the restrictions of the original arch.
Not sure yet Ive got a 5 stud conversion to go on so was wanting the e36 m3 wheels style 26 i think but they are turning out to be in short supply ill probably use rota grids as a fall back plan when i first started i shout the m3 archers were wider than standard but they stick out from the car the exact same amount as a standard arch so from inside he wheel arch there is no real difference between the standard and the m3but i quite like the idea of so may end up doing that
Just a quick look at the car could tell you they are defo wider than standard e30. Very quick google brought up Track/tread (rear) 1415mm for a regular e30 and 1433mm for a m3. I may be missing something but they are wider and thus by not removing the old inner arch you wont get wheels to ever sit flush.
god a bit more done today Ran out of mig gas got had a clean up before nipping out to get some more then to fix some pesky rust
Got a little more done today nearly there but still need to do some work on those shut lines next on the list is to sort out the inner arch
Update i have decided that with the first local drift day happening in march I'm going to concentrate on getting it driving before getting it looking good so todays task was front suspension to remove the old front subframe and rack i jacked up the engine an sat it on a bit of wood i couldn't tighten up the front wishbones as the nut was spinning the shaft on the ball joint so i jacked up the car on the wishbone to lock it on the taper so i could tighten up the nut for the nut on the drivers side the problem was i couldn't get to it so i had a think about it and came up with a solution great wheel on not great. more problems gunna have to have a think on this one while looking at this i unearthed another issue the steering column minded on the manifold. easily rectified tho marked it with a hacksaw blade then took out the bolt hey presto it clears no the next job is a bit of an experiment i got a mate to make up these the plan it to raise the mounting point of the trailing arms on the rear beam so that when the car is lowered the trailing arms are sat at the correct angle
