You could use a ae86 pedal box but I have heard its not a direct swap and can be a headache to fit in. the difference is, as you said that the ae70 pedal box has the extra bit to the right to mount the clutch master cylinder and pedal, as Ke (k series engine) uses K40/50 gearbox which is cable operated and the AE uses the T50 which is hydrolicly operated. as the ae70 is the same car but uses a A series engine, it fits the KE70 perfect up in the dash etc when using the 4age. I got mine from a mate in Autralia where ae70/KE70 are alot more common. They rate putting the ae86 pedal box into a ke as the hradest thing to do in a KE swap to 4age. Thats why I bought the ae70 box! How hard it is to fit I dont know as I just decided i cant be arsed to find out!! ![]()

Not got much done this weekend. Black Betty (Rob) came up for some Northern loving so that was cool to see him. I did get a few engine bay parts ZINC plated as I am a bit of an engine bay 'WHORE' and though while I have it all out, I might aswell do a good job!! ![]() Anyway some pics mates mk1 escort geting painted. This needs to be ready for Germany in 4 weeks and hes got alot to still do!! ![]() My stuff. Stripped down the 4age of all the TVIS and other crap I dont need as going VEMS and DIS. Messy floor!! ![]() ![]() started to ripp the x member and stuff apart as its getting shot blasted and then painted. ![]() next, gonna get some new copper brake lines as not happy with the rusty shit I am putting back on, so ganna make some of tem this week. and paint up the engine and fit all new gaskets etc and replace rear main oil seal too. hopefully, can get it in this weekend coming up if I get chance from work.

update ok... Well I just picked up a few more parts from the zinc plater's and also had the cylinder head reconed with new valve stem oil seals, re grind valves and a skim as when I took the head apart it looked like it needed it!! ![]() also just got back from MR Toyota who bum rapped me for £40 for 10 new head bolts and alo bought a full engine gasket set to refresh all the gaskets on the 4age. Also, painted the the X member, steering rack and the TCA so they all look fresh and nice and fitted in new poly bushes too. Also had to take all the brake servo and new ae70 pedal ox BACK OUT as the captive bolts that hold the steering coloum in were turning and couldnt get them to tighten up proper so that was a pain in the arse. Also had a go at making new brake lines out of copper pipe - BAD IDEA as that shit dont bend as eay as I though and wasnt happy with the finish so will just put new unions on the old lines and paint up to look std. I just thought the shinny, polished copper would look cool next to the brown. No photos though and its just sort of been a bit lazy week doing jobs to neaten ship up really. Will have the engine built up Thursday ready to sit back in. Will update with lots of pics after that. i hope to get the engine and box in all this weekend and the suspension all on too, then its just a bit of wiring with the VEMS!!! Woo -hoo!! ![]()

Well, I havent really got many photos to update this thread but I have done a few things. I have made copper brake lines, shotblasted and painted x member and ARB supports etc, fitted new rubber boots to steering rack and rebuilt my 4age to be dropped in this week. Its just a std build up as all the modifications to the engine are bolt on type as money needs to be spent elsewhere for the car to get done. I also bought ANOTHER KE70 this weekend too, for spares and repairs type shit, plus the odd clip/bracket as I seem to of misplaced some!! ![]() anyway a few pics. Will hav more by the end of the week.. ![]() ![]() like I said, not much to see. had the rocker covers blasted too and they are painted gold, and its actually all built up now, as i was waiting for a few things to add on.

That is correct Oli-san. Its a fricking heap though. about a year ago it was an ok car but now the wings are shot, doors arnt great, pockets are not there, and theres an 'after-market' sun roof badly fitted aswell (proper 80's conversion!!) Just so its clears, ITS NOT FOR SALE and to be honest, it would take alot of work to make it decent, but the underneath is mint due to wax oil and the engine/interior is mint as the car has done only 44k.

just give me a couple of weeks with it when its finished dude, thats all it takes!! ![]() This car is a real learning curve and when you get down to doing stuff you really learn alot. this is the first engine I have stripped and rebuilt (bottom end remained std, just re sealed the sump etc) but had the head reconed and fitted new headbolts/gaskets etc. its all very fun!! ![]() | |

ok, another update. I hoped to have the sucker on all fours by now, and with as much stuff as poss bolted on the car. Ssill have to put the brakes/hubs on my new struts bolted on the car aswell as the ARB and TCA. Then I can get it rolled out of my shed and have a large clean up, as its very tight for space and its hard to shit stuff with a car in the way, in fear of damage! ![]() Plus, to top it off, I went out riding my MTB on Wed, and was 'hitting up' some local lumps and crashed and landed on my back from about 10ft, no my back is sore and wont let me get down and dirty like I want with the car, so a complete weekend seen the below results! ![]() did a bit of shot blasting ![]() ![]() and had a few things Zinc plated back to original.... ![]() ![]() big empty engine bay. What can I put in here.... ![]() I know, some shitty Toyota engine!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() also, I am a clean freak, and the washer/coolant bottle wasnt cleaning up to well so bought a new one from Toyota. ![]() Also, picked up a another KE70, just like mine, except, this one, has rust!! and some crazy seat covers!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the cars not great body wise, but its only done 44k.

Cheers Billy. i was gonna just go silver but as you can see, its already got alot of silver!! ![]() Was thinking black but thats a bit boring and as its brown, briter colours like red wouldnt work, so a nice, sutle gold does the job!! ![]() It was a real pain though sanding the tops of the letters on them as I kept catching the wides with 400 paper but its all polished out and looks good IMO. Sure, its just a rocker cover but I think gold works great with the shit poo brown! ![]() shame you couldnt make it up at the weekend too ![]()
