| We had another serious misfire once the engine went back in.. My heart sank, and we did a compression test. That wasn't the problem, so I jumped about like a madman reveling in the fact I didn't have to take the fcukin thing out again . Then we had an O-ring fail on an injector, which would normally be a 5 minute job, but because of the lack of access with the engine pushed back so far it took about an hour. We still had the misfire, so took the NGK 9's out, and swapped them for some 7's to see if they had just been fouled with it running so badly. The sparkplugs are changeable, but it's not a pleasant job when the engines red hot, and it takes 30 minutes each time. Misfires still there, and we find a problem with the VEMS using a TPS based map, and it had been fcuked up by removing and re-installing the throttle cable . So we have it idling nicely now (at about 1am) and I make the mistake of thinking 'finally, something positive has happened'. Then we find that as we go up the rev range, the good old crank and cam signals start spiking everywhere and we do need a trigger wheel based signal after all.. The car is 99% complete, but there's so many loose ends that need tieing up to get the car compliant with EDC rules, that I really really needed this engine running correctly for the inspiration to finish it.. I don't mind having had 3 hours sleep a night for the past week if something positive were to happen as a result of it, but as it stands I'm about to push the thing off a bridge ![]() |

| She's running again after taking the front end off the engine to modify the crank sprocket.. It's currently running on the map from our 1JZ powered R32, so is understandably running like pants. I'm just doing a few more jobs whilst it's on the ramps tomorrow, and I'll be booking it in for some mapping . |

| Small update: After chasing our tails with this crank trigger problem for far to long, we made the same modifications to the OEM crank trigger that we did to get our 1JZR32 working. It of course DIDN'T work . We were getting a jumpy RPM signal, and at 4800rpm it would read 25,500rpm . So knowing that there's really no physical difference between our two engines and two ECU's, we exactly replicated the R32's wiring for the crank trigger, pulled the sensor out, found it to have picked up a load of swarf (it's a magnet), cleaned it. Which cured the jumpy rev needle issue, but not the massive jump in signal after 4800rpm. So, dispite being incredibly busy, and very stressed out, the imortal Phatbob set up an exact replica of our car on his testbed. He found it caused the same problem we were having.. He suggest a change in a setting that I believe tells the ECU the space between each of the teeth on the crank trigger. Myself and James have just been back to the workshop, and within 5 minutes had it running cleanly with no flittering RPM needle, and a clean sweep right to 7000rpm.. Can I get a WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! ![]() Next stage, start from scratch on the dyno again. Another update soon .. Something positive just happened.. I might get a good nights sleep..Quote:
