Well, there's plenty going on with the car. We've been on it for most of the new year. It 'almost' feels like I'm finally getting somewhere, but I'm still finding more and more jobs to do everytime I look at it. The biggest problem is waiting for small things to arrive to actually tick some of the big jobs off the list, for instance I'm just two aeroquip fittings away from having the fuel system complete..

In the mean time, here's a couple of pics of something pretty boring that I'm really proud of. The space where the windscreen wiper mechanism normally goes is now taken up by engine. So we bought a universal kit car jobbie, and after some horribly fiddly work, we had it mounted I'm chuffed with the 'factory' look we've achieved.
P.S. I love my new Rivnuter

Okay, I'm still here working on the car as usual, but I had to take 5 minutes to play with my new Nikon D40x (thanks for the advice Ross )..

Here's a small taster of some of the work we've been doing.. It's alot more complete than this, but the exhaust manifold is currently away being worked on, so we're missing one side of the engine bay..
I've quickly thrown the inlet side together to get a scrappy couple of shots for you

Ooooo it's getting close!

Just a few pics of the hot side 90% complete. Obviously there's a few vital components not in the picture, and as always it's in a constant state of flux, looking like it's ready to start up one minute, and then looking like it's got another years work the next

Some more pics.

The boot (or trunk if your reading in America number one) is almost there now. It just needs the filler neck sorting, the level sender wiring, the new looms tying back, and the fuel cell sealing to keep some smoke out..

I've finished Pclipping 99% of the hoses. It's a bit messy at the moment, but here's a couple of shots from underneath.

Loads of room around everything for track side mechanics.

Here's some of the tidy work going on in the back at the moment.

That's the battery cut off.. A very cool bit of kit..

And here's the mess that is the wiring.. It's an absolutely massive job, but James is well on top of it

Rear facing Wilwood clutch pedal. This was an extremely 'custom' fit

and some work on the clocks and centre panel.

We're kind of twiddling our thumbs until the ECU stuff is sorted, but luckily, today after many weeks weight, we had a nice delivery from our the guys at RedDot

Posh discs and pads meant we could finally mount up the freshly powdercoated calipers, and get the new blingy Doluck wheels sitting pretty..

I have a one of these on my face:

Overfueling it's tits off, and no radiator etc so couldn't exactly 'rev it up' but it's a good noise to hear after 14months

She blew a valve out on APT's dyno today ..
The engine was very much an unknown quantity from a breakers, so I suppose it could have been worse..
Gary and the team at APT did an absolutely incredible job getting the VEMS up and running, and sorting out a few wiring niggles here and there, and the power was looking very promising before we lost the valve..
My theory on the engine prob: The engine had lot's of crap around the crappy sparkplugs it came with, so when we changed them we blew out everything we could with an air line and brake cleaner, but I fear that something got down there and stuck in the exhaust valve of cylinder number 4 (leak down tested). There wasn't a hint of det, and the new plugs came out looking absolutely fine..
We didn't get the car on the trailer until 3am this morning, and I had to leave for APT at 5:30, so I'm absolutely nackered... + (suprisingly) a bit gutted.

Update on what I'm going to do about it as soon as I've had some sleep and my brain works again..

I had to make a complete exhaust, screamer pipe, and modify the manifold today on our 1JZR32, so the S15 sat there looking sorry for itself all day. But it'll be on the ramp tomorrow, so we'll see how far I get with the 'small' bit of fun I'm currently very much looking forward to

I only just got it on the ramp this morning as we've been busting a ballsack to get James 1JZR32 up and running for BDC this weekend (they just got that running 10 minutes ago).. But, after much swearing the S15's engine was on the floor 5 minutes ago.

I'm going to crack the headbolts off now.. Fingers crossed eh!..

Hmmm. No bit's of valve missing, but one of the relevent cylinders exhaust valves seems to be standing minutely higher than the others.. I think my suspicions of debri getting into the seat area may be correct, but I won't know for sure until I take the valve out tomorrow..

It's on the left in this picture.

As we were let down with the ARP head bolts not arriving today as they should have, we had a bit of time, and I made the decission to fit the 256/264 cams along with the uprated valve springs and retainers I bought for the 'built' engine...
We removed all the valves, and lapped them in. Most of them were pretty crusty, and as suspected cylinder number four had some deposits..

And while we were there, we checked out the port matching, and were absolutely shocked how bad it was.. I've marked it in white chalk pen here.. It will be ground back tomorrow when I get a decent milling bit..

I had a little nightmare with Machinemart being closed, and not being able to find a set of burrs. But as I had started the port matching, I needed to finish. So I set about the head again with some more stones in the die grinder..

It took another couple of hours, and I'm quite happy with the results

And I've never removed or re-fitted a valve before on any engine, so it took me a while to get the nack of getting the valve locks back in, but I got it down to a couple of minutes per valve after a bit ..

We got a bit carried away and went to install the new 264 exhast cam, before I remembered the 2jz's different to the 1j, and you can't get to the head bolts with the cams installed ..

Hopefully the ARP head bolts will arrive tomorrow, and I'm going to have to find a HKS head gasket as well now, as I wasn't happy with how the standard one came off.

All this, and I hope to get the car back together, get it mapped, get it laser aligned, and do a couple of hours testing somewhere before EDC round one on Saturday.
