Yeah there's not much wrong with a tape measure, as I've proven plenty of times by making my adjustments, then going on a full alignment rig and pulling the car straight off as it was spot on .

You can do alignment witn 4 axle stands, 2 poles, 2 bits of string and a ruler

Strange as it may sound but 90% of all race teams do it since it's more acurate than any laser alignment system....

What do you need the stands for?
Any guides on how to do this?

(sorry for the hijack)

there was one posted recently in technical

You basicall put the stands at each corner of the car and get the string a set distance from the wheel and then take your measurements from there

Looks like it's going to be a close one to get to Round 4 EDC on Saturday again. The testing on Wednesday went well, but the last run blew the front crank seal. Throwing most of the contents of oil out the front of the engine (really sorry lex ).
When I installed it, I didn't realise it was supposed to be flush with the outer edge of the oil pump, and pushed it in until it stopped, as you would imagine is the correct thing to do.
The theory is that this extra couple of mm of insertion blocked a small pressure relief oil drain hole that returns to the sump, and the pressure had nowhere to go.
There was no way to pull the seal back without damaging it, so I'm currently relying on picking up a new seal from Toyota tomorrow morning and putting the car back together in time.

I am REALLY happy with the car other than that. After another load of alignment changes and modifications to get the front wheels to stop hitting stuff on lock, the car now feels alot less hectic to drive even in torrential rain... I am really looking forward to the competition on Saturday and Sunday if the car goes back together okay

Sorry to hear that Phil.

In my experiance you usually have to actually tap the oil seal home. Which is a horrible job I usually do with my fingers crossed and eyes closed.

Often a very large socket is the best thing to use as a drift. (drift geddit?!).

Good luck.

Okay it's back together and running without pissing oil everywhere . I guess I won't know if it's actually solved the problem until it gets driven properly tomorrow, but fingers crossed eh
