stuff done today in prep for a very drifty weekend at crail. the cars in need of some love so had a hot date with Chizfab this week.

tytening the wheel game, i collected up some of the alloy stash and headed off in search of rubber. a huge thanks to mercury motorsport in upper largo, fife for supplying me.

about 20 tyres put on today, knackered!

car into chizfab and kyle and Jeek set about it while i messed around with the prop donut. car is covered in rubber from the last day

back axle came off nicely, it need a new trailing arm (kindly provided by Brother Will, many thanks) and also i had a set of powerflex bushes to go in too. my existing trailing arm was completely ****ed, so this is much safer. took a while to build back up, but we got there!

love and kisses to our favourite diff builder Mr Will for his lovely parts emporium

parts ready to go back on the new trailing arm. note the mess i have made everywhere. free of charge too, i'm good like that.

lots done, lots to do! the gearbox bush done and new intake fitted. and prop donut to do, bleed the brakes, fix the exhaust blow and bolt it all up again together, and also get the car aligned properly for the first time.

more tomorrow

yah theyre all minses, some of whats turned into a pretty outrageous collection to be honest.

yeah kyles had it tough the last few days but he's been on excellent form and the work has been top notch.

some more done tonight! rear end all build back up and prototype CAMBER ARMS built for testing at the weekend! They're specced well and offer greater adjustment than anything off the shelf so far.

hmmm, could it be?

i kept out the way and sprayed myself with zinc a lot.

brakes bled, and then 4WA at ladybank tyres tomorrow. then an evening of mucking about at home with subframes, bumpers, stickers and other associated drifty nonsense.

big thanks to chizfab for another excellent shift on the M3.

day 3, got to Chizfab at 1 to find he'd fixed my exhaust blow, modded the camber arms nice, fitted a new rear flexi and bled my brakes, so it was ready to go. the hydro, bled properly is SAVAGE. i've never experienced one so good. feels like it will lock from any speed - can't wait to test it tomorrow.

many thanks to ChizFab.com chaps again for superb work over the last few days.

took the car to get aligned at ladybank tyres and used the same settings as two_sheds, but i've opted to go flat on the back with 0 camberzz for maximum smokes on low speed nonsense and general hooligan behaviour.

back home in the garage, after cleaning all the tar off, refitting the bumpers after repairing them, fitting new trims, spraying lights black that had faded blue

remade the passenger subframe so people can both fit in it, and see over the dash

lovely combo of chizfab flared arch, right on the deck zero cambers, and 10x17 Borbet A ET20 with a 225/45 tyre. car is jacked up in the photo, dont worry about that arch gap!

drift tomorrow with the sxoc at crail, should be good!

Car is looking really good! Nice reading the project! Only one thing. That shit needs to hit the deck! I mean burning paint off as well as rubber underload on those arches son!

0.2 to 0.5 rear cambers would have been marginally better for tyre wear/grip since you are going all posh with alignment machines at lady-garden tyres.

Quick question, is it easier to remove the rear subframe with everything attached in one go, or to take it apart bit by bit? Trying to get mine out at the mo, removed the exhaust and diff, currently trying to get the arms off the frame itself.

As one is always easiest. With diff etc still attached, then do what you need to in the sunshine and not on your back looking at a dirty floorpan.

day went very very well! infact whole weekend did. the car munched its way through 28 tyres (tyre pile ones). handled great all day and allowed me to get some practice at proper fast drifting. coming out of corners near the limiter in 3rd at an indicated 95 is a new experience and one i'd like to get more confident with. only prob during the day was a plenum that collapsed - but this was fixed by a hoarde of people who jumped upon the car including a great man from lochgelly who beat the plenum back into submission.

new plenum without the leaks and an exhaust that wasnt blowing certainly made the car feel faster, happily spinning the wheels up through into 3rd. hydro was savage all day, locking from any speed. i was able to initiate much earlier than i've been used to, and was one of the earliest on the day (i believe)

having zero camber made the handling very predictable and the extra grip was definitely noticeable by comparison on the 8val - i was able to link the track up easier due to being faster through the transition. zero isnt necessary though i'm sure. (and have been told!) Chizfab camber arms will be available soon after testing is finished!

found a pic from the saturday, which i was happy with but i'm told by knowledgable sources i need more cambers on lock.

and a video from the 8val on sunday, props to two_sheds for silky production

Any ideas on the price of the camber arms?
or would i be better contacting chizfab?...actually forget it, il do just that!

Im interested to see what you do with the 318is, as this thread is the only thing stopping me from getting rid of mine.
I changed my plans for it, and its now gunna be a budget drifter with hopefully turbo power....i know my sig contradicts this, but im fed up getting nowhere fast with NA.

PROPER QUESTION
If you had your arches tubed, could you get more steering angle? or is it being limited by something else?

Your m3 is a real inspiration

Paul

heylo, thanks very much for your comments yeah PM chizfab for the arm prices - they're way below Ground control/turner motorsport prices but still use much better quality material than the crap £80 ebay efforts.

the iS is just a daily car, no real plans for it other than to keep it on the road. if i'm getting banned under totting up, thats certainly going to be something rather tricky! turbo M44 engine would be lovely, theres a chap on bmwowner.com who has a rather lovely supercharged one. not cheap though.

the lock is restricted by the amoiunt of teeth on the rack now, so i'd need to fit the rack from something else magical. I have Chizfab lock spacers which give the car great angle now, i dont think any more is really needed to be honest. I would say i would be competetive in the car at BDC amateur level, and i dont think the steering angle is any sort of weakness to the car/driver package. its pretty much all the driver that needs improving!
