AW11 Drift Project

Used to have one of these years ago and although they're not famous for their driftyness i thought, frick it gotta be worth a try

So mission number one which has to super high on any drifto build is diff.
Being mid-engined and using a transaxle this was never going to be a five minute job.

Step one.
Transaxle removed and on work bench.

Step two.
Split transaxle.

Step three.
Remove diff ready for me to take to work and weld.

too be continued

Welded diff sitting pretty.

and all back together with a small dose of universal blue gasket.

If only the pics showed what a fiddly friggin job it was!
Still very satisfying now it's all back together

Next jobs fit towbar to tow car, buy trailer and then uhmmm buy drift car to put gearbox in

Not sure whether it'll drift or not but its got to be worth a laught!
Hopefully a bit of tweaking on the alignment will help.

i used to have an sw20 and i tried loads with that and it was great fun but it wasnt easy!

added some GAB coilovers and dialled in loads of front camber and it was far more controlable but it certainly needed a welded diff!

twobrutal is where you wanna be looking for power gains if you haven't already

I loved my AW11, but the severe lack of space meant it had to go A 3SGTE one with LSD would be almost unbeatable

A mig spec'd MR is gonna be interesting on a wet roundabout in rush hour

That was part of my plan, as well as a bit of camber and toe at the rear to loosin it up a bit... will take a bit of fettling i reckon

Don't start me thinking about engine swaps, been nosing around a few sites at what's possible but this is meant to be a lowish budget drifter.
It won't be seeing any streeto action either, will be a track only machine

It's not too bad but is dead fiddly unless you can strip the box completly.
Basically the way i did it, i left all the gears and selectors intact apart from the reverse linkage inside the box.
Then when you split the box you can get it about 1 1/2 inch apart and get a spanner in to unbolt the linkage which allows the box to split.
But when you put it back together again you have to hold the linkage in place and screw the bolts in for the linkage through the inch and a half gap.

Hope that made sense lol...

Should hopefully have mine at lydd as well, fingers crossed, picking up a car next week with a blown engine and have another engine lined up for it.
So it's all just down to spanner time.

Woohoo.... Some progress

Took delivery of the car today, came with...
Adjustable suspension and apex springs.
Buckets and harnesses.
Boss and steering wheel.
Small battery relocated to front and strut brace.
15" alloys and also 4x spare brand new tyres.
almost a years mot and 1.5 months tax.
Top end is knocking with a bit of smoke.

All for £300

And the new engine and box with welded diff waiting to go in

Now it's time for..... Spanner time

Funny thing is i actually turned it down and then a few hours later thought... "shit!! What am i doing!" and quickly changed my mind

Kind of stumbled onto it.
I posted up a newbie thread on an mr2 owners club and someone pm'd me offering it.

I might beable to do your diff sometime but i'm just snowed under with jobs at the moment with work and getting this car ready, have you tried nick off driftracing?
