mcnport ae86 N2 build

My god im so tired....

we built this car over a ten day period. prob got 30hours sleep in total. but it was worth it im in love wit the car and think it look awesome.

we recieved this car from japaneseusedcars.com about four weeks ago, i had to leave for formula d round 4 so when i returned we had 14days till prodrift rosegreen.

these picture were taken on tueday july 17
we started off wit a ex N2 ae86 built by suzukijidosya in japan
bhp: unknown
weight: 885kg

work began that evening and we tore the car apart and called it a nite at 5am. the car was quick but as wit all 4ages produced little torque so weight loss was top of our list and im proud to say we hav produced the lightet ae86 ever (until the next 1)

we welded in a new sheet of steel in the rear and modded the wheel arch where the fuel filler once was

we removed the front panel for better air flow to the carbs

we rewired all the dash and moved the gauges from the centre console to in front of the driver

heres the rear fibreglass hatch. we removed the inner skin to save weight, the doors also got this treatment. in fact all panels on the car are fibreglass, we even moulded panels that we didnt already hav, bonnet, headlight covers, doors and rear hatch all in a 10 day period. thanks to driftkits.eu for suppling the rear bumper and sideskirts.lexan was used to replace the rear glass and side windows

first fit of our ae86 fibreglass rear quarters

the fuel cell was moved to the middle of the car and battery relocated to the passenger floor

we had to weld in a X bar on the drivers door as we were running fibreglass ones and the interior looked like this when finished

this pic was taken at 9am thursday morn the 26th we rolled her out for her first test run after pulling an all niter cos of a late decision to build a new axle for the rear as we were unhappy with the initial of its own lsd. we then mocked up all the panels and she left for paint at 2pm

we collected the car at 2pm friday. major thanks to mark sheehan at ms crash repair for having the car done so quickly. oh and the wheels arrived.......... big thank to work wheels for them

it was final assembly time. all panels were fitted and suspension settings changed to my liking and all camber, castor and toe settings changed

this was taken about 1am fri nite

by 2am the car was completely finished, all that remained was to add the people who made it all possible

we finished the vinyl at 6am and headed for rosegreen at 6.30am for sat eve practice. i was lookin forward to driving her so we set up pit and heres the first shot of her in action

sunday was a little disappointing we qualified 17th and just missed out but all in all v happy wit her first day, rosegreen is such a horsepower track and everybody in prodrift has horepower but mondello is a different story....watch this space.........

there u hav it, the new mcnport ae86 N2
we hav built europes most sucessful drift car (our sr86) using the ae86 platform. the sr86 has since moved on to prove its worth in america and now we plan to develope a na ae86 to take on prodrift again and cement our place a europes no. 1 drift tuner

bhp: still unknown
weight: 7**kg (lets say less than 750)

official photoshoot to follow........

Haha, it's was Levin and turned out to be another Trueno
Nice, very nice! Fingers crossed for the n/a tune of 4AGE, hope it would do some nice 3rd-2nd-braking-clutch-kick-and-slide-slide-slide drifts...

looks badass i cant imagaine how nimble it must feel with all that weight reduction. Also really surprised at how much metal had been taken out how is it structuarally? does the rollcage sort that issue out or were there additional amounts of bracing/reinforcement?

screw rolling/flaring arched just replace the whole lot with wide wings

Well done on the fast build!

I think I prefered the car with the Panasport C8's and wide arches though...

Great work, Darren! If things work out, hopefully I'll be able to watch this car compete next year

Looks like Falken is taking care of you over there as well.
