No pics today as I cant be fricked, but more progress.

Side repeaters fitted were BMW ones, but no wires going to them for some reason, and no bulbs or buld holder either.

So today went and stole some from the scrapyard, made a new loom for em, plugged em in where they originally went, and err, nothing.

So went down and robbed a set from a scrap celica, and plugged them in, and they work!

frick knows why BMW ones dont tho.

Thing is, the indicators are still flashing fast though, even though all 6 indicators are now flashing? Not MEGA fast, but faster than they should.
Pressing the hazard switch makes them all flash slower.

Any ideas?

Somekind of resistor or relay? Mike's Cefiro indicators flash pretty fast too...

sounds like they are the wrong wattage of bulb, too fast normally means the resistance is too high, maybe they run some weird bulbs in them on the JDM ones? daft as it sounds try wiring an extra bulb in parrelel just to see if it slows it down, if it does then you just need to put some higher wattage bulbs in as a quick fix.

Thing is tho mate, why would they go to normal speed when hazard switch is pressed if that was the case?

Thought im FAR from an electrics expert!

I was thinking of adding repeaters to the front bumper (ie where they should be) as the side repeaters have been added as a mod in replacment for the bumper ones, and the normal (ie next to the headlight) front indicators can hardly be seen from front on!

Could the rear lights have been changed? Are there JZX81s with different numbers of indicator bulbs?

For example, early 30 series Soarers have 3 bulbs each side, then they changed to 2, so if you swap the rear lights you also have to swap flasher units or, depending on whether you have increased or reduced the number of bulbs, remove bulbs or add resistors.

The hazard flasher unit may work differently because it doesn't need to flash at a different rate as a warning that a bulb has failed.

do the lights on the dash flash when you indicate/press the hazard button? could also have the wrong flasher relay fitted. but check the wattage of the bulbs should be 5w i think.

Yes mate, lights on the dash work

Right, small update today...

Went n got 2 legal rear tyres fitted that I had spare. Needs some legal fronts now too

Rear wheels are 9x17 ET38, and sit slightly proud of the rear arches with the 225s giving just enough stretch to keep the tread under the arches.
Its official, stock JZX81 rear arches are GAY.

Fitted some front indicators in the bumper today, hopefully to make the flasher speed go down to normal.
Went to the scrappy and aquired a pair of nice looking Rover 620 side repeaters for a princely sum of 1 pound, fitted them, and...
No change, still flash too fast. Tho are normal when press hazard button.
frick it, should still pass MOT.

Headlights are strange too, side lights are normal, main beam is normal, put on full beam and main beam changes colour (maybe brighter too, hard to tell).
BUT the inner most lights do nothing regardless, anyone (Bon?) know when they are meant to come on?

And, err, thats it really.

Oh, and do the speedo NEED to read in Mph for the MOT? As that aint ever gonna happen really, the frickers got a digi dash... (unless anyone knows if you can convert it to MPH by pressing some buttons? You can on Vaux digi dashes.)

The inner lights are driving/fog lights, should work off a twist switch on the light stalk.

No need for kph for an MOT.

Alex- 1st twist do the outer ones, 2nd twist do the main middle ones, 3rd twist is auto.
Pushing or pulling the stalk just makes the main middle ones go brighter it seems.

Cool, KPH its staying then

Is there not a separate twisty bit further along the stalk, like some modern cars, (saxos for example)?

They may not have been wired up as it's not the original front end.

Yeah it's a twist stalk further down for the fogs, but since yours is Mk II with chaser front end it might not be wired up right, but I don't see any reason why not.

Indicators are bizarre, have you tried changing the bulbs in all the lights for new ones, the proper big indicator bulbs and the right ones for the side lights? you should have rears, front headlight sidelight things, and proper ones in the front bumper, and it'll work fine?

One thing to try to increase load on flasher unit, get a wire and connect the both the left and right side indicators together (only the positive side needs connecting together). When you now indicate either left or right from the stalk they will all come on, see if this makes a difference to the speed.
