Right then, my turn...! As ive always been used to really stupid power (and lighter!) cars, a Chaser with about 400bhp has felt a bit tame to me, even though everyone else thats been in it thinks its fast as frick, but ill change that shortly to power im much happier with... ![]() Holset HX40 turbo including awesome comedy Scania compressor housing... ![]() ![]() ![]() Manifold... ![]() ![]() 46mm Wastegate... ![]() ![]() Also gathering the rest of the bits, got all the fuel system barring 800cc injectors and a bigger rail, so nearly ready to get it all on there. Also need to swap flanges on the wastegate join on the manifold to a different shape one (have new flanges), and get some turbo braces/hangers to help stop the usual cracked manifold tears. Gonna wrap the manifold and use a turbo blanket too, to keep the response as good as poss. If Webbster can see 575bhp on a stock engine and GT35 at 1.5bar, I should be able to see at least that with mine at the same boost, considering ive got HKS cams and a turbo approx GT40 size (and one thats more efficient at higher boost than Garrett GTs), which is nice, as 400bhp per ton has always been enough to keep me entertained in the past, and should be more than that ![]() Back on more important things, ie getting the car ready for DWYB this wed, my new spacers have arrived to replace the fricked ones currently on the car... ![]() ![]() They some German make I forget the name of, really well made, was 150quid, which wasnt bad seeing as they proper Toyota fit and thread.

Bon- Oh yes, well, its a Holset HX40 with a fairly small exhaust side, so basically a Garrett GT40 but way more efficient at high boost, and stronger. Lightning- A pair. Just found the link... [ WHEELS UK : SCC WHEEL SPACERS ] Only took a couple of days delivery too. Bob- Indeed mate. I know plenty of people that has used Holsets, and everyone seems to rate them higher than pretty much everything around. Main thing im looking forward to is being able to afford to build an engine that can make the most of the Holset party piece, ie having huge compressor exducers (compared to the inducers) and therefore being perfectly happy and mega efficient even when running over 3bar boost. Garretts are on their knees anywhere after about 2bar, and I like boost, boost means torque... ![]() Last edited by Stavros : 04-04-2008 at 12:15.

| Mr Sir | Dont be afraid of a large turbine housing, one of the Swedes who feeds me dribbles of information tells me that even the big turbines spool quickly and give very low backpressure. On the downside control is difficult requiring two large wastegates. On the upside the low backpressure means 300deg duration cams with big overlap is on the cards, they measured 2bar back pressure with 2.4bar boost - meaning that there was no chance of exhaust gas reversal. | You kents are fookin mad! I have a TD06 20G L2 8cm baby turbo...looks like its off a kei car compared to you guys lol. I think the biggest i personally would go is a trust T68 (7?) on a 1jz...after that it seems like 2j territory to me ![]() Huge revs are the key though, perhaps one of those holset suckers with cams is the way to go, even on my 1j perhaps. Wonder how far you can push a stock bottom end 1j rev wise? My defi goes to 11 ![]() Hey does anyone have an oil cooler kit laying around that they havent fitted yet? Could you please measure the internal diameter of the hose for me? I bought some teflon stainless braided hose and am unsure if the diameter is big enough to fuel the fire. Cheers Guys |

Im sure Bon will remember the hose size mate, noticed he had one fitted in his grille at EDC Rd1. Ive still not had time to get one. Regarding the turbo, well, its fairly big, but still only a 700bhp or so turbo, has a divided exhaust housing, and meant to spool quicker than their Garrett GT equivalents, so overall it shouldnt be too bad, and if it is ill wake it up with some nitrous maybe, i dunno, ill worry about that when the time comes. Simple fact it cost me £170 was reason enough for me. Right, been out in the dark and cold and rain, getting hailed on like a muthafricker, but I got some shit done... Changed wheels, and now rocking some shite 16in Kei Office Tsuchiyas on the front, and some 17in AVSs with a really sucky offset that looks stupid on the back. Bringing along another pair of the Kei Office rims and some slightly less gay offset pair of AVSs too. Hopefully between them lot and whatever are for sale at the Pod ill be ok and be legal(ish) to get home. Changed to the new spacers, fricking FAR better quality and fit than the JDM shite that was on it previously, good old German stuff, TUV approval means there no choise but make em mint, and they were. Bled the handbrake, some fricking BIG bubbles came out, and I hope that was trapped air and not because me or my old man fricked up and it was sucking air thru as it ran empty! Not had time to drive it to check, but ill take some fluid and a bleeder with me n do some more at Pod if it still sucks ass. Swapped position of the wand from vertical to horisontal too, to get more leverage, so hope it helps. Big close to the stick now, but dont look like it will get in the way, even in 4th, and im sure as frick not up to the skills of wanding it in 4th yet anyhow. Thats it really, just need to take it round the block tomorro to make sure all is well, load it all up, and frick off Wed morning...

Ant- Ebay! Ive picked up a few silly bargains like that, I got hold of a brand new GT60 with a .86 exhaust housing for similar money once, but no fricking idea what to do with it, even tho they normally retail at about 2000quid ![]() Best thing is to search for "enourmous" "huge" "gigantic" and "turbocharger" rather than "turbo". These are usually sold by folk who arnt nececarilly in to tuning cars and also ones who think the turbos are so big they useless to anyone. I got the Holset so cheap as the guy was convinced it was a 1500bhp turbo that wouldnt spool up till high revs even on a big V8. In reality it would spool fairly ok even on a 2litre...

Right then, car skids, car skids good, im sure its the car as i dont think its me, lol. Done 2x DWYB days now, heres some pics, tho there hundreds now if you search the forum... http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...20DSCF3624.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...v/IMG_7952.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...v/IMG_7969.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...v/IMG_7966.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...d_IMG_7845.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...d_IMG_7858.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...d_IMG_7855.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...d_IMG_7859.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...d_IMG_7870.jpg Learnt a few things about the car, like the box is shite, needs an oil cooler, arches need modding more and more and more for clearance, and the car has fricking MENTAL steering lock, ie more than you ever need really... ![]() Since then I was planning on doing the Skyline only DWYB day the other day, but got 100m down the road before I headed back as was a dodgy knocking/clicking noise from the rear offside wheel. Didnt have time to check it at the time as was late, so went without my car ![]() Sounded like a CV joint, but checked today, LOOSE WHEELNUTS! They keep fricking undoing! Alloy ones suck dog cock! They being removed ASAP. Flared the rear arches LOADS today, like over an inch i think, so much so i almost need spacers again, lol. Still rubs at the rear on 18s with big bumps tho! Im wondering if its rubbing on the inside, tho ive not spotted anything? No pics yet, but ill do some, looks good. Main thing is PAINT! The car had tons of paint missing on almost every panel from drift damage lately, doors, bumpers, everywhere, and with spangly purple metalflake thats not exactly summat thats easy to fix. First thoughts were let it get totally and utterly fricked then respray whole car in a less hard to fix colour. BUT! Local paint place to the rescue! Gave them my filler flap to paint match with, wasnt expecting much back, esp not the metalflake, just thought theyd get the purple shade right, but lo and behold they made me 5 rattlecans full of paint thats fricking bob on! ![]() I went round the car today touching up all the paint (there was a LOT of white where the purple had been smashed off by cones, fences, tyres, flaring the arches, etc) and the car looks fricking badass now, WAY better condition than even when I first bought it ![]() Ill take some pics this week, but im well happy Only thing else to add is on way home from the last DWYB i thought it got a missfire a little, and a test drive today confirmed it ![]() Its noticable at very light throttle and full throttle where it seems to stutter, so probably electronic, but not sure, will soon find out ![]()
