Someone asked about the heat blanket pics, so I jus took some...

As its such a dirty great turbo, I bought this from AET the other day, a turbine heat blanket, which will go along with the heat wrapped manifold and so on, to help keep as much heat in there as poss, which will in turn improve spoolup a bit...

Yeah, im really in to things that are far more expensive, flake off over time, and dont hold in the heat as well.

How much are heat blankets, are they worth it, and where would I buy one from if it was worth it?

...and breathe.

on a small turbo, id not bother perosnally, but it deffo does help respone and boost threshold.

they anything from about 80 to 150, depending on size. from Owen Developments or AET.

So only really useful on huge turbos?

I was wondering, as everything else on mine is wrapped.

they useful on any, but when little turbos are so responsive anyhow, a 10% difference or whatever is bugger all.

ive seen 2litre 650bhp cars get much quicker response and a 350-500rpm lower boost threshhold, which is good, but on a smaller turbo i doubt itd help that much (considering the disadvantages of extra heat gives, ie possibly killing the turbo quicker), as wouldve thought it was a % improvment.

but honestly dont know for sure

You know all this talk of a colour change? Well it was just a cunning ruse, and I never ever planned to do it, as metalflake purple is amazing and really easy to colour match, honest.

Or in fact, as I needed to get the car on the road ASAP as im meant to be taking it for a rollcage on Sunday, this evening I quickly sprayed the bumpers purple to make it look ok, and, well, it came out really nice, so frick it, My Little Pony Purple is staying!

Looks THAT good though im finding it hard to bring myself to fit the new bonnet, and kinda gone off the spoiler idea even more now, hmm.

Notice the front bumper is a LOT straighter than ever before too, thats because the front bumper was smashed in to 4 pieces, so I put it back together straighter

The rear bumper is a little more on the piss than before tho, as it was smashed clean in half in to two bits and I guess I didnt put it back together as well

Also notice the DTM front splitter I slung on, which IMO looks fricking ace, well happy with that.

Got the correct flange welded on for the wastegate too, and a very nice job they did...

And now I have odd wheels, as one GTR is a plain white one, as when I smashed my bumpers to frick, I did the wheel nicely too

Looks round still, but got a big chunk missing and a nice crack too. That repairable?

Im gonna go out and finish/spray the vented bonnet now I think...

Tidy. Deffo love the front splitter. Although looks to just be a tad too short, and sits high. Where you get it from, or was it a mag freebie type.

Short as in how far it sticks out, or how wide? Can stick out further if I wanted, but more looked a bit gay. Its meant for a E34 BMW, the widest one I could get, but it could do with being a few inches wider.

Sits high? Well its just a DTM front splitter, its about 5mm thick, it can only sit as low as the bumper goes!

I got it from, honestly, behind my cupboard! I dotn even know how many years ago I bought it, must be 5+ though, found it by accident the other day so decided to wang it on. Think its just an RGM one? I cant remember now.

I meant as in width, ala nascar style. I want to put a nascar style front splitter on something but i don't think il ever own something that could pull it off. I think they look badass in a chop your ankle of kinda way. Car as a whole looks good anyway, splitter would look better about 1/2 inch of the ground though.

Considering it was rattlecan-tastic, the paint came out nicely.

The finish is poor on the bumpers as I got bored of sanding and filling, but the paint worked well. And looks mint from 6ft away static.

Thats literally a liberal coat of My Little Pony Purple, then a couple of coats of clear laquer about 10-15min later, thats it, but came out nice enough.

I always said once the cage is in the graphics go on, and TBH im looking forward to the cage mostly as that ticks the final box to allow myself to put the graphics on, lol.

Did anyone go down the bookies and put a bet that the front splitter wouldnt last a single journey? Well you shouldve!

Just took it for a "test drive" and all was well until a certain speed, and at that point the downforce on the splitter decided it was too much and the splitter departed company with the car.

Didnt damage the front bumper at all, suprisingly, but destroyed the rear bumper quite spectacularly, and just as annoyingly, took the little bit of trim between the drivers side rear light and the bumper with it

Car seemed to be missing a little too, fricking car! And gearbox is whining like a flange!

Gonna have to order them bits from Japan, which is more than a bit gay

Is it legal to drive with no rear bumper? Still has number plate, etc etc, I got about 80 miles to do tomorrow if I want the cage...

As far as I know you just need to make sure there are no sharp pedestrian killing spikes showing and you'll be fine
