is that bit that you cut out of the floor definately not structural, my brother told me that is a structural part of the car and I shouldn't hack it out

Well, I consulted my dad and next door neighbor, who are engineers and they thought it was basically doing nothing. When its actually ripped out, is pretty much about as strong as tinfoil. Really thin stuff, and only held in by about 4 spotwelds. The cage will give me more strength that that would have done though anyway.

Additional update.

Aerocatches fitted. Biggest pain in the ass ever, totally fiddly and a bastard to line up in every way. Never using these again - they do look good though.

Rear Godspeed ARB fitted, with poly droplinks. Not as hard to fit as I expected - trickiest part was fitting them with the exhaust still in place, because I couldn't be bothered to take it off.

Seat mounting coming along nicely, using some Dexian to get everything lined up and use as a template, or may stick with it permanently cine it seems pretty good stuff. Still the front mount to do, will probably do that with one long U shaped piece which runs all the way under the seat.

More 17 inch wheels for my collection, should have all I need for now really. In need of spacers.

Finally, Ricco harnesses. Really nicely made, very impressed. Excellent price too, reccomended.

Update time. Really starting to crack through the list of jobs now, should be well on target to get done in time.

First, I finished off the bonnet pins by making some plates to cover the underside, which really neatens it up.

Then, I finished off the front tow hook by bracing it downwards, its solid as a rock now.

Then I fitted the rear hook, which was a bit of a bitch - not really anywhere to mount it to. In the end, I sandwiched the hook with another piece of metal over the lash down eye.

Seat mounting finished, gives a really nice driving position. Need to make some bigger spreader plates for underneath though, and paint the brackets black and neaten them up when I get all the other vital jobs done.

Harnesses in. Reworked the crotch strap on the drivers side though to turn it from a two point to a single point, as there just isn't enough room between the floor and the bottom of the seat anymore.

Finally, fire extinguisher semi-fitted. Mounted it in the best position i could find, ran the in-car pull cable, but the second cable is far too short to work as an outside pull cable. I'll have to buy a longer one. Also plumbed in all the pipework and located the nozzles.

Jobs left:

Mount external pull cables for the extinguisher and engine cut, make bracket for them and cut a hole in the bonnet.

Make dash panel to mount shit to.

Make underfloor plates and bolt in the rollcage.

Fit clutch.

Few other little jobs, and I thiiiiink thats about it. If i have time, I'll get the cosmetics sorted before round one.

Interesting where you are putting the nozzle in the engine bay, I was going to put mine where the turbo is as I suspect that is more likey to catch fire?

Mine is an Sr though

Well I still have a standard manifold and no heatwrap there, so my chances or a fire there are reduced quite a bit. On balance, I think as my mods are now, I'd prefer to have it by the fuel lines.

Yeah I couldn't really make up my mind, my manifold is also standard, was going on the assumption of an oil feed letting go on the turbo

Good progress there I'm prepping mine but not for drifting, but for racing, I have an idea for the external fire and electric switches, but mine wont be ready for about a month, and it shouldn't involve cutting the bonnet...

Are you BDC'ing this year then Andy?

I cut that seat mount cross member out of my S13 and mounted a Sparco seat rail straight to the floor, worked a treat. Like you say, it doesnt really do that much

Yes, I'm hopefully going for BDC pro. Desperately trying to get everything done in time for the last licence day though.

Update wise - made a battery strap and fixed the oil leak today - was assuming this to be the sump gasket had gone somewhere, which would have been a bitch to replace, but discovered as a nice suprise that it was just a faulty stock pressure sender. Bish bash bosh, half an hours work, no leak.

Update. Few more things done. Just need to make some floorplates and bolt in the rollcage and its drivable again!

Solid collumn bush fitted. Turned out to be a bitch to fit due to the way Nissan had flatted off the ends of the threads on the bolts - i presume so they don't fall off it if comes loose - which came off perfectly fine, but once back in place in a tight space, made it almost impossible to get them back on again. Anyway, its done.

Pullcords routed, secured, and mounted.

Also fitted a 4th guage for water temperature, which you can see in this pic. Just waiting for my new rad to come from the DB-Power group buy on SXOC to come through before I set it all up. Got my next door neighbor to knock up a sweet dash panel for me.

Went to the Silverstone practice/licence day on Saturday, first time I'd driven the car in 6 months. Ended up running into a few problems, mainly with tyres. I started off the day on some 16inch old ones, which I wanted to finish off. Couldn't figure out why fo the first few runs I seemed to have absolutely no control. Decided to change for a pair of the 17's I bought, which made a massive difference, and straight away I got two fairly decent runs. The the rain came. A combination of tyres with very little tread, a low speed track (no momentum) and a couple of niggles with the car meant I struggled a bit. I ended up getting an amateur licence. I was originally gutted, as I know I could do so much better than I did, and I was also under the impression that I had a spot booked for pro - so in my mind it was either pro or nothing, as I thought i'd never get through the reserve list if I had to drop out from pro - but it turned out, somehow, that I was only down for amateur anyway, so i'll be going for the amateur league this year! Fairly happy with that for now, I'll just get some more experience, learn the tracks and move up later. Only problem is i've now probably ended up with a massively over-specced car.

On a different note, mechanically wise, the car was good. Engine power is considerably up since I fitted the proper front mount, and it drives a lot smoother. Feels sooooo powerful now, compared to what I'm used to. I'm guessing I'm now at the top end of stage 2, which is about 280hp. Few things I'd like to do before round one though is to sort the alignment, fit the tein arms, and hammer the front inside chassis rails - as on full lock sometimes the front wheel was scrubbing (slowing down that wheel) which was causing me to spin sometimes - particularly since it was wet. I should have some spare time now as I don't need to get the rest of the car up to pro spec, so I should have plenty of time to get it ready for ams.

Updates soon on:

Geometry
Huge rad and fans
Hopefully some paint.
