| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Wehey! ![]() Had my best ever time at a drift event this weekend, amazing doesn't do it justice. I learned a hell of a lot, and had a great time at a brilliant track. I felt I was doing quite well in the dry practice on Saturday morning but unfortunately, rain came as we were queueing for qualifying after the track had been dry all day, which caused havok for a lot of people. I ended up spinning on 2 of my 3 judged runs, of which my two best scores would have counted, so I got two zeros and something else, which put me out. I still had an amazing weekend and I can't wait for round two. I've ended up with quite a few things to fix though. ![]() Was really nailing third gear stuff on friday night practice. I learned a lot doing that, as I had basically no third gear experience. Changing up and down mid drift is now something I can handle easily. However, all the third gear action has basically killed my clutch. It was slipping like a bastard on friday night and I didn't think I'd end up making it for the saturday competition, but it held up ok and I just stuck to 2nd gear to nurse it a bit. I've got an RPS sititng in a box in my kitchen ready to go on though, so no problem. The manifold-turbo gasket has gone AGAIN, so that needs changing, will hopefully add a decent elbow while i'm at it. I also shattered the bumper by going straight into a tyre wall. Its also bent the front wing to buggery and pushed the headlight back a wee bit - nothing major though really. I should be able to get the bumper back together with some more fibreglass. I also need some better plugs, as when hot and on full boost it was misfiring a bit sometimes, I think because the plugs were only meant for stage 1, and i'm now at the top end of stage 2. The gearbox has also developed a massive leak, as when I took the car off the trailer when I got home, it had pissed all its oil over the trailer bed. I think I know where its leaking from, but still a pain. I also think I need to uprate all the moutings, as I was hearing quite a few vibrations. Gearbox, engine, and diff. Should stiffen it up nicely. Lastly, was getting steering vibrations on full lock because of the steering arm - knuckle joint was getting too straight and vibrating back and fourth. Fitting the Tein arms should sort that though... I hope. Should hopefully have some good video footage later, once I can find my capture device. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Small-ish update. Fitted my DB Power rad a couple of weeks ago now, keeps temps noticably cooler. Needed a few tweaks to fit, but happy with it now. I've got some electric fans to go with it, but not got round to fitting them yet. ![]() Bought another Recaro SR since I loved the other one so much. Made a custom subframe for this one though, fixed in one position, as low as it will possibly go. Its quite a lot better than my last attempt. I need a black one though to match the rest of my interior. ![]() ![]() Rollcage padded. Looks nice and neat. ![]() ![]() Patched up the bumper somewhat. Its at least back in one piece now, just going to fibreglass the back of it, then fill and smooth the outside. ![]() Home made stickers! Used some printable OHP transparancies and sticky back plastic. ![]() Diagnosed the gearbox oil leak. Split gaiter at the bottom of the gear stick, as I guessed. ![]() Next jobs to get done: 1. Fit clutch 2. Replace manifold-turbo gasket and fit turbo elbow 3. Remove ABS pump and fit a proper catch tank in place |

| How much work was that DB Power rad to fit? It's £15 cheaper than the Apex one, Im wondering if that saving is worth it for a bit of extra faff? ![]() I only saw you drive in the rain - with a few more practise runs you'd have got it - but because of the weather all of us only got one, I think almost everyone spun on their first go! ![]() |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Mark: Yup, clutch needs doing, BADLY. It won't last another event, I wasn't planning on trying to make it do. Discount for name on the car? ![]() Jeff: Indeed, rain screwed me up. Not the first time it has either. I was prepared in actually having decent tyres for it, but skills didn't match. A couple more practice laps and I'd have been fine, I had just about got myself sorted in the dry. Rad wasn't too hard. Had to drill some new holes further back than the standard bottom mounts to account for the extra thickness. The wiring for the fans is a bit dodgy though, I'm going to re-do it. Also, the location for the temp sender is crap, but if you're just going for the rad alone then those things won't be a problem.Ed: Ali said you're a wizard with fibreglass stuff now, I might have to get your help on sticking it all back together properly. |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Decided to have a crack at the clutch myself as I'm running low on moneys, and it was suprisingly easy. ![]() RPS Street Max organic. I don't have an alignment tool, so I had to make my own - and it worked suprisingly well. I was also suprised at how simple a clutch system is, as I've never really seen one before! Had a quick test and its all running good, pedal feels much more positive now. I've also noticed the master cylinder was right on the minimum marker for fluid, which is probably why the pedal went to the floor a few times. Will have to check that for a leak. Also whipped off the mani/turbo to replace the gasket, the solid one piece metal gasket I got has just had a huge chunk blown out of it completely! Going to finish that off tomorrow. I've also got a decent elbow to throw on with it now too. Last edited by Andy_f : 14-04-2008 at 16:55. |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Ah yes, got royal bad luck this weekend, was going fine through the practice and getting some decent runs towards the end, but then after doing the parade lap to get ready to qualify, I did a quick burnout to get some temperature into the tires and the main boost hose to the plenum came off! Lucky I did actually, otherwise it would have come off at the start of my first run and I'd have had no hope in hell of fixing it in time, but as it happened I still had about 2 minutes to get it working again. So I limped it back to the pits and then realised all my tools were locked in my support car - and my dad holding the key was down the other end of the track! So ran down there to get the key, ran back, fixed it, got back onto track. It still wasn't running right. One of the hot pipe connections was trying to excape off the pipe too, so tightened it back up as much as I could. Still wasn't running right. Anyway, went ahead with qualifying, bit I was so worked up after running around like a loonatic and stressing my head off, I couldn't concentrate and ended up fricking up all of my runs. To top it off, it now won't go into gear properly. I went for a 2nd to 3rd change on my last judged run which incidently would have been quite good, but ended up left with no drive as it just wouldn't go into gear. I was so gutted, as I felt I had a good chance, and my entries were pretty decent. Just couldn't hook up the runs I needed. Also, car is handling like a bag of shit. I guess I can't expect it to be great, as I've fitted various adjustable geometry parts and set them up with a tape measure. So i'll try and get that done properly for the next round. One of the coilpacks seems to be screwed too, came to the conclusion that it was causing the missfire from earlier, as it was running perfectly when cold. Got some more of those on the way though now. On the plus side, when it was running properly, it was pretty damn good, and the clutch felt very good. Just a shame it won't go into gear properly.I did however get some of my good practice runs on camera using my bodgetastic in-car camera mount, so I'll try and get those up later today. |

| Same reason I span on one of my runs at Norfolk last year after hitting the barriers and knocking my intercooler off - the mad panic to fix your car results in your heart rate going through the roof and then you cant string a sentence together never mind a good drift run ![]() Keep at it dude, you're good, your time will come ![]() |

| I <3 BDC! ![]() | Fook, been a long time since I've updated this thread. So far, the car has ran pretty well for me this year. Plans are now to finish the season as the car is, then spend some time over the winter making it drive and look badass. I pretty much haven't done anything I was hoping to do during the season, so I'll be doing a rebuild over the winter, making it stage 3 and hopefully about 300hp. Anyway, overall its been good. The biggest progress I have found this year is my driving skill. I feel I've improved massively over the course of the last 3 rounds or so, and I'm really happy. I can consistently drift good runs now without really making mistakes, whereas before I'd probably get 2 maybe half decent runs and then spin. Whereas now, at Teesside for example, througout all of the judged runs of the day (8 total) I spun on one of them - and it was soaking wet anyway. I ended up 2nd in Am class at Teesside, so I'm hoping I've overcome some of my nerves now.Vids I've made since the last thread bump: Norfolk arena, Sunday practice. In car and out car footage: |
