Andy_F's comp spec S13 project

Old thread here: Andy_F's low budget S13 project... take 2.

Well, I've had my S13 for over a year now. I've got in a fair bit of practice and realised now that I'd quite like to start competing - after I got my first taste of Tsuiso at Rotorstock 4 - and loved it. I was also told by a few people that I had the skills to do well in competition. I'll be aiming at BDC Pro level.

Anyway, since my old project thread was originally titled 'low budget' and ended up being much more expensive than I thought/planned/hoped, I think a new thread is in order, and I will document my build up from amateur spec car to comp spec.

----------------------------------------

Still to make/do

Possibly make my own tow eyes
Paint interior
Paint exterior
Poly rear windows
Fix dent in rear quarter
Remove ariel
Chop some inner bodywork to reduce weight

The current look:

Proposed look:

Hopefully it'll be the only kitted two tone S13 in the UK. I haven't seen any others. I also haven't seen any other S13's with an M-Sport body kit.

The plan will be to keep the engine standard and stick with the CA, that way it will be relatively inexpensive to fix or replace if I have a failure, and also parts are plentiful.

I hope to start cutting through the to-do list with vengeance in the next couple of weeks. I still plan to keep to my original method of doing/fitting as much as possible myself, without getting anyone else to do anything, except fitting tyres.

I thought you might say that lol, I started off just trying to fix the colours a bit better then thought it badly needs some dished rims and gold centres seems to really work well with the colour. Also tried to blend out that line down the side that you were on about doing whilst repairing the damage. If only real life was that easy lol

ps. wangan wing, top spoiler and a bit of flare

I'll stop hijacking anytime soon just giving you naughty ideas of what it should become

After a trip to see Mitch yesterday, and a trip to DW HQ last week, I can finally do an update! Fairly substantial one.

Fitted the spoiler ages ago, forgot to update. Looks badass!

FIA seats purchased! Cobra Suzuka for the drivers side, OMP Eco for the passenger, since I'm a tight ass. Problem: with a normal subframe, the suzuka is far too high. From research i have done, it seems everyone has the same issue with the seat and any subframe. Solution? Hack up the original mountings.

It seems that its not a structural part, but I can always weld in some box section to put strength back if needed. I'm just going to basically make some L brackets and mount it straight to the floor, which gives me a perfect driving position. Roll cage also trial fitted - Fabricage FIA straight leg dash dodger, for fitting with minimal fuss.

Pics of seat/cage:

Check out the headroom!

You can also see the plumbed in fire extinguisher in that pic, waiting to be fitted.

Front tow hook semi-fitted:

Had to mount it at an angle to avoid the IC pipework and to fit through a gap in the bumper with minimal fettling. Unsure about where or how to mount the rear one, if you have any ideas feel free to spout them.

Cut off wired in and working, not mounted yet. Need to make a nice panel on the dash to mount stuff to:

Its finally getting there! Ordered a set of harnesses last night, and then need to buy my safety gear. Aiming for licencing at Silverstone on the 16th March.
