A dissapointing time
Went over to Gaz's last nite to see how the build was going due to him having problems with a broken valve spring compressor,
He was starting on the head when I got there so I stayed all through the nite with him working on rebuilding it, (Valve collets are a serious pain in the arse).
Anyway we got to about 7am and I was in desperate need of a couple of hours kip, plus I had to meet Matty who is coming down to help out so I headed home.
Sadly a while later Gaz phoned to saty that we are missing a vital Gasket for the sump and he cant get one till monday so thats it for now and the engine will not be in this weekend as planed
Anyway some pics
Bottom end

Head looking clean and nice

Managed to source a flywheel and bolts last night and set about putting it all back together today

So I started with this

Managed to get the flywheel, clutch and gearbox on and most of the water hoses sussed out before Paul and his mate baldy arrived and shortly thereafter we had all the hoses and bits sorted out and an engine ready to go back in.
Engine leaving the workshop for the last time

LIFT!!

The engine mount relocation proved troublesome

But after a short session of struggling swearing and cursing (mainly from me) we have....

And part of the team

So there we have it, the engine is finally back at home, sadly we ran out of light and have had to call it a day for now but hopefully 3 hours work? tomorrow will see it running again, Cant wait.

And the verdict is?

ITS f*cked!!

Got the fmic fitted put the oil in, put the water in and theres water pissing out of the thermostat and the side of the inlet manifold where it meets the head.
Cured the thermostat and tweaked up the bolts on the inlet manifold, primed the engine and its pissing fuel out of number 4 injector and STILL leaking water out of the inlet manifold to head,
Add to that the fact that it sounds bloody awfull when turning over I think its game over for this engine.
Really dissillusioned, peed off and numb, angery and upset st the moment.
The missus had to take the lighter from my hand as I was going to set light to it (and im not kidding).

Had enough, ive paid out ALOT of good money for this heap of crap build and the guy who did it isnt responding to his phone.

Need to sit back and think about what I want to do, I dont know wether to cut my losses and break it and HOPE I can make enough to buy something decent or wether to go on with it and try and source another engine which is going to take me months to save up for.
Problem is buying a second hand engine is an unknown entity and it could turn out to be another pile of crap or it could run sweetly for a very short time before blowing up and leaving me with no comeback and no car again, or it MIGHT, just might, be ok.

really dont know what to do at the moment.

ITS ALIVE!!!

Started at 11 Oclock this morning dismantling the old engine ready to remove it from the bay, so disheartening afer everything thats happened.
I was on the lifting out process when Paul and Ash turned up to lend a hand.
Didnt get any p0ics of the removal and refitting process as we were head down crack on mode today.
7 hours later the turbo is swapped along with the clutch and gearbox and back in the car.
Initial start up after a couple of minor hiccups revealed one very rattly engine, Paul looked at me and I looked at him as if to say "OHNO" but, a few minutes later on it settled down as the oil got round the engine and I now have one of the quietest, sweetest running CA's ive heard in a LONG time.

Still needs a little settling, Ive driven it round the block but not going too far afield at the moment.
Initial thoughts are that there is ALOT of power under the bonnet waiting to get out, its holding back a little so need to check timing etc.
One BIG surprise is that the turbo IS a roller bearing one so I definately need some water feeds for it.
Cant wait for tomorrow now.
Paul and Ash a massive THANK YOU For all your help today.
Anyways enough rambling from me heres some (ropey) pics, Paul has video of it running too.

Just been out on its maiden run 8-)

Took it steady as shaking it down, bit smokey at the start which I expected and it cleared, smokes a bit when you pull away from the lights under hard acceleration but its due to overfueling. Also had the odd misfire as though it had chucked too much fuel in it.
NOT that quick at the moment owing to T2871R Turbo running stock boost (7psi) but thats fine for now while I shake it down and sort some boost control out.
Rear wheel bearing needs changing on the nearside but all in all she runs sweetly pulls well and isnt leaking anything si im a happy man.
Just needs setting up and she will be running full power.

Looking nice! I was thinking about keeping a full interior since the one I'm looking at is to a be a daily as well, but the interior is already half gutted and I'd hate to waste all the work the poor kid has done so far.

I dunno about the preface splitter on that front, though. I love the preface over the newer face though so maybe I'm just biased. Gotta be one of the cleanest mildly-tuned S13s I've seen, though!

Is the out of place spoiler a cop magnet by any chance?
