Ugh.

Owning a car you can't afford to insure is just plain silly.

It's all well and good saying your dad will insure it, but will he ferry you to every Drift meet and car show you'll ever want to go to for the next 5 years of your life?

Even then, who is going to be paying for the car's MOTs, Tax, repairs and mods? If that's you, then you're a mug for paying for a car you'll only get to use every so often.

My advice would be to prepare for the jolly rogering an insurance company is going to give you when you come to insure it you or sell it and get something you have a hope of insuring cheaply.

Because you'd acutally get some use out of something "worse".

Cars are meant for driving, not for waiting for when you have enough candles on your birthday cake for Mr. Insurance man to play nice.

Err, no he doesn't, that's why I've pulled him up on it

His plan seems to be dump thousands into a car he's going really going to get any real use out of for 5 years.

Granted you've gotten further than most your age (you've acutally bought a car) but this sounds like just another teenage pipe dream to me.

In my eyes, i think its fantastic that someone his age is this dedicated to drifting.

Like he said, hes going to get a road car, maybe a volvo.

The kids got it planned out, he aint thick.

Let him get on with it!

I say fair play!

Let the young lad be and stop givin him shite just cos he's doin things a bit different to how you would like...besides it would be plain insane for him to put all his eggs in the one basket and be having to worry bout his drift car being his main mode of transport...He'd have nothing but headaches then... Oh on the volvo thing, my mate has a 740 drift car, with a 400hp YB under the bonnet

I'd be interested to know how many cars you've driven in your short life... You're instantly assuming that anything with affordable insurance is going to be rubbish. That's a but childish don't you think?

I know for a fact that you could insure an MX5, which would literally run rings around that XR4i...

And by the way "sentimental value" is just a cop out. One day you'll grow up a bit and realize a car is nothing more than a hunk of metal - I thought it wouldn't happen to me, but it did, and that's the day the for sale sign when up in my supra.

You'll probably do the same

If the running total on the car so far is 5 figures (which I somewhat doubt) You -

A) Were a moron for spending that much on a car you plan to use in 5 years
B) For spending that much on a Ford that doesn't have a Cosworth badge on it
C) Will be able to afford insurance. If I at 17 can get a quote of a touch over 2 grand on a BPU'd Aristo with every mod including the kitchen sink declared living in south london, there is hope for you.

I'm not trying to ruin your thread, I'm just trying to help (and werid as that must seem ). If you want me to stop, then I will, but you'll have to face the music one day mate .

Look m8 i dont want to get into keyboard wars with your at all, one thing sentimental value means alot to people who give a shit (Unlike you!)
two, yea a mx5 might run rings round my 4i but so frick i like my car, mx5s are not in my price range either and i can pretty much put my car on the fact i cant get insured on one if i cant get insured on a 1.3 mk4 escort

also in my short little life, i have driven 6 cars and owned 5 in total and one of them being a mini cooper s works racing round croft when i was 15

Dont call me a moron, i wasnt claiming my car to be in the £00000 price range im saying i paid NOTHING FOR IT AT ALL....... and aristo at 17 is just absolute BOLLOCKS with a capital B, like said above no insurance company will insure me on a 1.3 escort for less that £2500 and thats completely standard, yea i know your are trying to give advice but pal your sounding like a complete tosser doing so.........

Where do i start...!! First had to widen the track with longer wishbones so that the wheels will clear the chassis etc, i used e46 bmw wishbones for that Then the little arm on the hub that the outer track rod end bolts into was shortened by 25mil...Gives serious lock I got a mate to do it as he knew how much to cut off etc... As for your car, had a cossie myself so i've been through it all If you convert the car to Granada front hubs, wishbones and anti-roll bar it gives the car a wider track hence giving room for more lock...Get spacers made up for the end of the steering rack then to give you more lock....Worked for me anyway, Til i crashed it Thanks for the positive comments on my car too, it'll be nice when i have it painted an everything...

At the end of the day mate, like I said, sentimental value is at best a cop out. You might think it's a cynical view now, but you'll learn the same thing with age.

Quote:

You liking your car has nothing to do with anything. At the end of the day, you can't afford to run it. It's as simple as that.

A grand isn't what I'd call breaking the bank, but still there are plenty of other choices. An E30 Bimmer, a bricky Volvo, heck, you seem to be a ford man, what's wrong with a boggo sierra? (1990 FORD SIERRA L BLUE on eBay, also, Ford, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 02-Mar-08 17:21:50 GMT))

Shop around. Entering your details into Confused/elephant/etc isn't going to get you a cheap quote unless you're a very average person looking to insure a very average car. Get on the phone

Honestly mate, I just don't give a frick. I'm not on this website to make friends, I'm here to voice an opinion.

Just because that opinion doesn't sing the "That's a Wicked car!!!1!" tune everyone else has been playing doesn't give you a right to start name calling .

Well that was 5mins wasted off my life and i aint going to reply to half of what you just said because id just be repedative, but one thing i will argue about is how do you know i cant afford to run my car? it has frrick all to do with you what i can and cant afford, and yes i can afford to run my car, like i said it wont be used as a daily car tho if it were that way then yes you would be correct it would be touch much, and i dont think i name called m8, just my oppinion, and i dont want everyone to say oh wicked car etc etc id prefer some people to say yes nice car but id do it this way and that way or no i dont like your car because i would have done this different and that different but all you are doing is saying sell the car its costs too much and you cant afford it because your are too young, if thats the case then why dont you go to other project threads and say to people like E.g Phil, your s15 is too less of car for a man of your standards buy a ferrari or for instance someone off trampdrift with a S13, your s13 is too much car for you and you cant afoord to run it so get a 316i, but there you go again thats imo thanx once again
