Was'nt this Skyline getting a RB30? Someone needs to stick a RB into something Toyota, just to even things out

Nice James. I suspect there was some reluctance to go Toyota with the engine but there's no denying in standard trim they're a far better engine unfortunately.. I suppose it took running Bon's car for a year to see it for yourselves

Best of luck with the rest of the conversion, sure to be sweet when done.

Nah, no reluctance at all. I'm happy to go with whatever works best

So, a quick update on some bits of progress, nothing too exciting, but each bit is a step closer to an awesome car so I'm all excited

Got some welding done locally as cast alloy welding is a right pain and I'm happy with the results

Turbo outlet now points in a useful direction

Welded up to point in the right direction. I've also blanked off the second turbo coolant feed.

Much better

Also sorted the bottom hose and changed the thermostat while I was there

Out with all of this

Leaving everything pretty tidy and simple

Gearbox sat in the right place, but held up with a strap

New mount made up of part of the Toyota mount, a Nismo SR20 mount and a few extra bits of angle and strap. All welded up on number 6 by Mr Ant

Fits nicely and should be well strong

Looking at the fuel system, I wanted to run an external pressure reg and wasn't happy with the bore of the in and outputs of the rail, so Mr Steveo kindly sorted me out with a larger bore, more universal fitting for the rail.

That's it for the moment, but it's coming together nicely
The prop should be done by Monday and the VEMS is now ordered.

That was from eBay australia. Bit more expensive than the cheap ones, but not much and it sits the turbo in a nicer place so the exhaust shouldn't be that much of a pain to sort out.
And yeah, we'll start slowly introducing more Toyota bits to the range as the year goes on

Phil I understand what your saying, but I cant see the material spec of an SR20 and Rb stock piston being different. Did you map them to the same EGT temp?

You can kind of see the mounts Steveo made in the middle of this picture

I used them, some SR20DET engine mounts and an S14 crossmember and it's sat the engine pretty much spot on. The S14 crossmember bolts straight up and sat the mounting position further back, which really helps meet the new mounts in the right place.
I need to get the whole lot out again this week to grind a rib on the sump down for better clearance and weld the mounts properly as they're only tacked at the minute so I'll get some better pictures then

The 6 cylinder RB seems to generate a lot more heat under load than the SR20. Also part of the problem was that we hadn't planned for Phil to use the R32 so unlike the S14 with it's super efficient V-mount and big oil cooler setup, the Skyline just wasn't setup to shed the heat effectively

I feel most of our problems last year were down to being unlucky with problems like a failing oil pump, injectors that were flow tested ok but worked strangeley on the car and a couple of other silly bits and pieces. That highlighted to us that the RB engine seems great as long as it's totally happy and within it's set parameters, but the minute you step outside of those it's quite fragile whereas the JZ engines and to a lesser extent the SR20 appear a lot more strong and more robust.

See...everyone wants a 1JZ, they are the ultimate engine for drifting, with regards to reliability, tuneabilty, and cost IMO. Oh and do i need to mention the sound they make?

Even that silly fast 700ps D1GP yellow onevia swapped from an RB26 to a
1JZ, cant remeber the drivers name though

Will be awesome James Good effort!
