Quick update with a few photos of the parts waiting to be fitted. Hopefully all but the intercooler will be fitted on Friday. That just leaves setting the ride height and geometry for one day next week, all in preparation for my track debut at the beginners' day at Bishopscourt next month.

Replacement steering boot and DW solid steering bush:

Turbo elbow, downpipe and de-cat pipe with gaskets and fixings:

Front mount intercooler kit:

Manual boost controller, but I have now ordered an electronic one from the USA:

No more at this stage, but a few things on the wish list. Need to concentrate on selling a motor or two first. A few shots of progress so far will be following shortly.

The parts have been there for ages, but now I have a deadline to aim for. You should come on the 9th and have a go with us in the novice area. It's away from the main circuit and there will be basically no spectators. Just bring some spare wheels and myself and another chap from Carrickfergus (Lee - he's on here too) are bringing some tools. There might still be a place or two left of you contact Wayne.

Some photos taken today with my Silvia wearing the set of 18" Work Meister S1s. Sorry if some of the pictures are a bit dark and blurred, but the weather wasn't really in my favour.

Finally a better photograph to show the S14 vvti SR20DET engine.

Hopefully the next time you see it the intercooler etc. will be installed.

I'll be putting the original wheels back on I think as I'm so scared of kerbing the S1s. More updates coming soon.

@ Stavros: Nobody can name, match or get the code for the paint. One place said they could have made it in 2K, but wouldn't sell it to me or give me the code because "that would be illegal"

. I'm having one last attempt by having the petrol cap cover sent to ICI. If they can't do it then I'm beat.

I'm hoping to get some graphics done to advertise a few things. I'm trying to come up with a design that will cover the few marks that annoy me. That's on the back burner until I can sell something else as the few quid I have at the moment is for the drift day next month.

! All comments are appreciated. For some reason I prefer the black car (understatedness?!) but the purple one definitely turns more heads so it's the winner in terms of a company show car. It is also nice that the uninformed think it's a

car, like my mx-5. Team underdawg ftw!

Where is the place with the tyres Lee? I can try to get them lifted this week.

Afraid the spoiler has to stay because it's been blended with the boot lid. I still don't know what make it is or even if it was designed for a Silvia. It would be nice to use it for a mould and get a batch made, but as a selfish mofo I don't want everyone else to have one.

Update time after two pretty hectic days!

Yesterday I finally got to use the car lift at a friend's workshop, after it was out of action since last Thursday. First job on the agenda was to sort the steering out. The steering boot was relatively straight forward and will hopefully protect the rack internals from the winter elements. The DW stainless steering bush again was quite simple to fit once everything was freed up. The difference could immediately be seen as gone was the 2" side to side movement that the rubber bush had allowed.

After double checking everything was back in place and torqued up, attention moved to the exhaust. We managed to get all the parts fitted (see photo in the above post) and amazingly no snapped studs or rung off bolts. I'm guessing the overnight soak with WD40 helped here. Now, with the turbo elbow, downpipe and de-cat pipe fitted the system is basically 3" from the turbo back. I can't say yet if I notice any power increase, but boy does Barney sound better! It may still be the typical "flat" SR20 noise, but now I can hear it at least and have banished the slightly asthmatic wheeze the original system had.

The drive home was a nightmare, greasy roads and lying water are not ideal in a high power car with a 2 way L.S.D. and stretched tyres, but Barney followed every rut, snapped violently in the slightest puddle and jumped sideways if the front tyre crossed a manhole cover. I began to wonder if we'd done something wrong or if this is what should be expected after taking the play out of the steering rack. Another new problem was the steering wheel lying off to one side when driving in a straight line. For the first time the car felt dangerous and I didn't want to drive it let alone try drifting it.

This brings us to today, another treacherous weather beaten drive to have a full alignment session done at a local specialist. After getting the lasers in place and the first tests done I looked at the screen to see if there was anything out that could cause such horrible handling... I'll let the numbers do the talking:

Front toe: L 5.6mm in R 24.5mm in

Everything else was basically not too bad, just a slight imbalance in front castor and rear toe. I think rear camber arms may go on the shopping list as the minimum achievable was -2.3 degrees. In total, the session only took about an hour and a half even with the gauges deciding not to pick up on castor changes.

It was a mystery to the technician and myself because we could physically move the wheels through a distance of nearly 2 1/2" in the arch by adjusting the Tein tension rods. In the end we agreed to measure the tyre to arch gap at the line in the front bumper and set this equally on each side.

Nervously I went for a test run to see how successful we had been...

What a difference! The steering wheel centered correctly, the front end feels planted again and straight line stability is restored. Turn in feels good without being too aggressive (I went for a slight toe in at the front, about 0.6mm). My only guess about the 24.5mm toe is that we seriously miscounted the threads when removing the track rod end yesterday.

All that's left to do between now and Sunday is pack the tyres and tools, remember my helmet and a quick wash if the weather holds up.
