DriftImports S13 Silvia Demo Car

Finally decided to start a thread to showcase the progress with my 1992 S13 Silvia and get some feedback along the way. It's probably not going to be a track car(famous last words!), more to take to events and let the people see what we can import for them and how we can modify it.

This post is going to be brief as it's half past bedtime, so just a few teaser pics...

The suspension was raised before the car was shipped and is still up in the photos. Big update to follow shortly with more photos and a few technical details...

Over and out
Mike

Have you got any idea what wing that is? If you're ever wanting rid of it....

I have no idea what type the wing is. I've never seen another one like it. It has been blended as you should see in some of the following photos.

It is sure to get noticed and one of the reasons I decided to keep the car instead of sell on. Note the position of the rear foglight until I take the plunge and make a cutout in the rear bumper.

The interior looked worse than it actually was with no gear knob(someone stole the Nismo one in transit), tangly wires were the stereo should be and a turbo timer that didn't work.

The new brushed alloy round gear knob is in(just out of shot) and a DVD head unit to display slideshows and videos at events.

To pass MOT in Northern Ireland, the speedo must read in MPH and KM/H so these were the only solution I could find.

That's it for now. More to follow shortly...

I ordered them from USA on ebay. The sellers are D1zone and/or D1tuning. They are not too hard to fit and I photographed the install to make a "how to" guide.

Hope this helps.

They just look like white "Lockheed" etc. You can see them in one of the other pics. There is a potentiometer to adjust the brightness if you find them a bit in your face. Not bad for less than £25 inc. p&p!

The kit I got is the 110MPH version for imports without a converter, other types are available I think.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments guys. Regarding the reversing light to foglight, I don't think that will pass MOT in Northern Ireland. It needs to have a certain type of lens and be a certain distance(4" IIRC) from the brake lights. Our testers know to look for these things, as one of our cars had a graphic across the top of the windscreen which took three of them to check for interference with the wipers(which it didn't) and then to try and see if they could pick it off for some reason.

So far I am stumped with the colour. No colour cards have matched it from four suppliers and I even took it to a place that scans the paint to get a match. It is outside the range for the tinters in water based paint and they can't/won't sell me 2 pack. Really hope it doesn't end up a full respray in a slightly different colour as there are just a few chips on the bumpers and a small crack in the filler on each of the front arches. Hopefully the trader in Japan who supplied the car can help. If he doesn't know the paint code then I'm pretty screwed.

Just focusing on getting through MOT for now as I really want to start going to events to get the company name about and see what types of car are in demand.

Here is a rather feeble photo of the engine bay. It doesn't look much different yet, except for removing the yellow wires dangling about. They were connected to 2 relays hidden under the dash that must have at one time kept the low beam on when you changed to main beam if I guess correctly. They weren't hooked up so out they came. The blue wires are an earthing kit that add at least 15bhp and guarantee victory in every twin drift battle so they stay.

Small update time...

Defi style gauges are in
Rear fog moved to RHS reverse light (£20 note ready for MOT tester)
Still no luck in finding a paint match
Got my wind deflectors from Japan
Completely removed re-circ valve (it had just been disconnected)

Until it sells, we have a sister car also named Silvia

Pics following very shortly...

No MOT yet because the front passenger seat belt doesn't fit in the buckle (must have been different in S14?). If anyone has a spare S13 passenger seat buckle I'll take it off your hands.

Over and out for now.

Another quick update with the photos as promised.

I wanted the gauges to have a really tidy install, with no cables or pipes running up the dash. In the end I couldn't bring myself to cut or drill the holes to hide the wiring, so it's proper JDM stick on style in the end.

Also rewired the reverse light for rear fog and tinted the lense. I tried a red bulb, but it just wasn't bright enough.

Just a pity to unbalance the rear end, but it's done now.

A sneak peak of the other Silvia with its 18" Works Meister S1s:

I'll have to get some photos of them side by side or should that be slide by slide...
That's it for now.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I have no idea what type or brand the spoiler is. I wondered if it was a 180SX ducktail job with three tubs of disguisapon to blend it, but I don't really think so. The bootlid does have a tendency to fall on your head when it gets the chance. Might have to put in the old gas lifters. Just about everyone under 30 who's seen the purple one in the flesh has loved it. One guy said the first thing he would have done was change the colour. Oh well, it's not his car!

I had thought of putting the Meisters on the purple one, but they are a different offset and I don't fancy forking out for 225/40 R18 tyres too often.

Next on the agenda is to replace the turbo elbow and downpipe, fit the de-cat pipe and sort the ride height out. Hopefully the car will have it's first outing this Saturday(26th July) to a charity car show at Delamont Country Park between Killyleagh and Downpatrick. If anyone else is going, let me know. I'd like to make a few more drifty chums.
