Belgian 86

Hi guys,

I introduced myself here a while ago and have been watching this site ever since. But now that drifting is becoming more serious I thought i'd post up a project topic as well. And i'd love to hear some reactions.

It all started about a year ago when I bought an '85 ae86. Fairly stock except for an exhaust and lowering springs.

But watching this (and other) site has got me more and more interested in getting sideways myself. As i'm still young and money is a bit of a problem this thing is on a very tight budget.

First thing i did was install some recliners, because the stock seat were worn. But they proved to be cheap crap, so changed the driver side one for a sparco sprint bucket using DW superlow seat frame.
Added a sparco steering wheel with DW quick release and stripped out the interior. Took out the electric sunroof as well.

Enginewise I put on a kn filter from a diesel escort, some magnecor leads and iridium plugs.

I got some koni shocks to stiffen up the suspension and put on adjustable camber plates on the front.

Then I changed the 15" ronals which had weak offsets and needed spacers to fit, for xr4's 7x14 et12 up front and 7.5x14 et-12 on the back.

I also bought steering spacer kit from tetsujin on here a little while ago which went on. But due to rubbing issue's I had to put the rear wheels on the front.

I've done 2 driftschool days, first one without konis which sent me spinning in the 3 judged laps for my drift license, and the second one with konis which leaded me into getting my license.

After the 2nd drift day I noticed my wheels rubbed on the inside arch on full lock, so added 2cm spacers up front till I get some wider wheels with lower offsets. But this then leaded to rubbing issue's with the fender, so I banged the hell out of it and now it's clear.

There is still a lot of things i'd like to do to my car, but for now i'll leave it as is and get some more experience. On 8 may i hopefully will compete in my first amateur competition So we'll see how it goes then.

And to finish off with some pictures:

That's what it looked like when I bought it.

During the first driftday (noticed the boat like handeling)

2nd driftday (looking a lot better and a nice bit of lock)

My poor fender modding skills

And some artsy shots

Well this might not be the most radical hachi you've ever seen, but due to our great laws here in Belgium, this is pretty much as far as I can go legally (and even now i have to take the steering wheels, seat, wheels off for it to pass technical check)

But in a year i'll be able to register it as an oldtimer and then I can do whatever I want.

Comment are always welcome and tips could also come in handy.

Greetings

Randy

Yeah normally i'm at round 4. The day after the comp I checked over my corolla and I noticed the front had been rubbing a lot on the inside of the arch. I put on some 2cm spacers on the front, so hope it'll be ok for the next round.

And sorry no pictures, i have one actually but it's so blurry you can't see anything. I'll my photographer to get some good twinning pics next round

I got pulled over my some cop on a bike this week. He said my exhaust was too noisy (even tho it has 2 mufflers on it) and aparently he didn't like my wheels, because he was bitchin about them. But luckily i'm preparing to make my new exhaust which only has one small muffler in the middle

Oh and the day after the comp, i got pulled over too, he checked the papers on the car and he then congratulated me for doing a good job during the comp the day before

Belgium sounds crazy regarding car laws.....upsetting even!

do they want you driving normal factory specification cars daily and keep the 86's and modified cars for the track??

Basically we can't do anything to our cars that legal. I have papers to prove it's road legal, even tho it's lowered, different wheels,... but even then they give you a hard time.
According to the laws here it's even illegal to put in a different seat, an air filter,... If you go to the annual check with wheel spacer on your car in Belgian, it gets forbidden from traffic You have to park it there and fix it or pick it up with a trailer

He probably just wanted to scare the young guy in the old beat up corolla.

Only one more year and then it's an oldtimer. I could put in a jet engine and it'd be legal

Strange all.. And I wanted to move to belgium maybe

But I think its no good Idea, because I don't even have a silincer at my volvo at all!! Hope I don't get stopped by the belgium cops lol Spacers however, are in Holland forbidden too..

A little scrup at the front tires doesn't matter though?

Time for a little update,

Been drifting quite a lot lately and changing things along the way.

My car now features a 6point rollcage, and Prothane full bushing kit.

These mods made the car feel instantly better, stronger and tighter.

Also did my first dry driftday, which went great. It thought there was no way my near standard 4age would be able to get sideways in 3rd gear

But with a bit a persuasion it performed great I managed to destroy 2 brand new tires in about 10minutes, which instantly made me feel better

A little onboard vid, don't judge the 2 muppets in the car, that was my first try on the big track, and I just felt like a driving god You can hear my new homemade exhaust, it's only a bit loud

This was when I discovered Toyota plastic rules, as i ran over my front bumper and it's still in one piece

Here are some updated pics

I bought the cage off a rally guy near me for 200€, only needed some paint.

In november the first round of XD series 2009 will be on Brustem Airfield, in which i'll be competing in Clubman class, my first big competition.

And during the winter i'll be fitting a f20c for more powarz

Did you buy them as 4x114.3 or will you need to drill them?
