I dunno, I'll get a bit more seat time in it and see how I feel. Thing is, I'm really not in love with the idea of adding FI even though I know the end result would be shockingly fast around a circuit. But most of all, I'm not sure I want to go through spending thousands (yeah I know you can do it cheaper but look at the rest of the car - I don't do these things on the cheap) on adding a turbo or whatever, and it'll still not be as capable a skid car as a mildly modified S14 or R32. I'm not ready to jack it in just yet, like I say. More seat time then I'll make up my mind. Unless someone comes along and offers me over £4k for it, in which case I'll probably sell.

Get a second car with powers for cheat drifting - my 535 was 600 quid and has 220bhp and a billion torques. A bit of stripping out and a welder and it would be awesome. That way you get your fix of 3rd gear stuff but don't lose out on having the car you've built and always buy back. I had a go in a 350bhp silvia and it was so easy to drift, but I wouldn't want to own one.

I think that with power in the region of 200-250 it will be a pretty cabale skid car tbh. I admit sometimes I struggle with the car as it is because the engine is standard, but alot of it is down to technique and set up. Since I have added a few bits and altered my technique a bit its become alot easier to drift. More seat is probably the better idea. I think after a few more dwyb days you’ll see what I mean and fall back in love with it. You said yourself, its a gorgeous car, don’t give up on it!

See, in an ideal world what I'd like is a car which is basically the same as the Roadster - same chassis feel, same balance, same kind of handling. But bigger, so wheels fit in the back, and it's more stable to drift. And with plenty of manfoot power. Oh, and pretty, with popup headlights. Yeah if only I could find something that fit the bill...

Yeah, that's what I was getting at in a roundabout kind of way. Though they do cost rape dollars to run, and I don't really know much about rotary engines. Certainly not enoguh to work on them confidently as I do with a conventional piston engine. But yeah, I would definitely love an FD. It's a proper sports car too, not like these trumped up luxo-barges that most people use for skidding.

Well my head gasket blew. Badly. So after trying to sell the thing and drawing a blank, I figured I might as well repair it. And why not put some pretty pictures up of my work. With no further ado, let the commencement beginulate! ![]() My spare head, looking pretty dirty. Just started taking the valves out ![]() Valves and stem seals removed, ready for skimming ![]() Skimmed and cleaned. Lapping the valves back in, just waiting on new stem seals and then I can refit the valves. ![]() One dead Roadster... ![]() One dead Roadster engine ![]() Removed a whole bunch of parts ready for the head swap. Note the tubular manifold. This is a standard item, not aftermarket. Cool huh? ![]() My bumper was looking the worse for wear after some fairly abusing dwyb sessions. I decided to replace it. You can see the remains of the airguide sat next to it. This directs air through the radiator and helps smooth out airflow under the car. This was totally smashed. ![]() New hover-drive installed and tested... ![]() And all done for the day. Looks pretty sweet without the bumper. Maybe I should just leave it off... So now I'm waiting on the stem seals and the HG set so I can refit the valves and get on with the head swap. The replacement bumper will arrive tomorrow so that'll be on hopefully before too long. There are about a million bolts on the bumper so I'm looking to use cable ties in a few places instead, so it'll be easier if/when I need to take it off again. I'm also going to replace the cat with my decat pipe again, since I only intended the cat to be on there for the MOT and the front joint has started to blow. Then once that's all done, I'll see if i can't get it to a few more skid days and actually just drive the stupid thing without it going wrong (or me breaking it, which is more often the case)

[gay] nice head [/gay] Re fixing front bumper: Mine is held on with the two studs/nuts that go through the holes just under the headlights and cable tied on everywhere else. Before I went turbo I had the air guide thing cable tied to the bumper, but now my IC is in the way I'd made a new air guide out of ABS sheet and cable tied that between the bumper, IC and radiator. The stay bars we cable tied on too, until the aftermarket bumper went on (cos it don't got the holes) As I'm sure you remember this was a sturdy enough fixing solution to keep a cone trapped under the front of my car for a good ten minutes at DWYB...

Aside from a couple of bolts at the top, the airguide is held on almost entirely with stupid plastic screws anyway, which naturally rounded out the moment I even went near then with a screwdriver, which meant I had to kill them with a chisel in order to get the old airguide off. So that'll definitely be cable ties. I think the only bolts I'll need are a few across the retainer under the headlights, and the ones which go through the fenders at the front. Other than that it's going to be cable tie city. I don't know what I'm going to do about the stay bars. Mine are rusty and attached to the old bumper in a fairly solid fashion which makes me think they're not going to come off easily. I might just do without then and see if anything bad happens. I also snapped one of the bolts, so there's at least one that definitely won't be going back on. Distressingly, I found wheel scuff marks at the top of the inner arches where the wheel has rubbed. Not the arch liner, let's not forget I ditched them ages ago, but on the actual metal. I might be lame and raise my suspension slightly. Should stop it trying to eat the wing on full lock as well. I should probably use the opportunity to add a couple of spacers to the steering rack too, but I've got enough to be getting on with for the moment.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean I won't sell it. But this way I can keep it and drift it a while longer till the used car market hopefully starts to pick up a bit, then maybe next year look at getting something a bit more conventionally drifty. Oh, I decided to sort out that ugly cam cover too.. ![]()

ABS? Isn't that some posh braking thing you get on mercs and saabs? Nah that's the brake resevoir and power steering resevoir. I've stretched absorbant wrist bands over them, the idea being that if fluids boil, they get caught by the bands rather than spurt all over the shop. Quite a common thing to do and cheap. Drop a load of slippery fluid on track and you won't be very popular...

Fans will be pleased to know that I now have all the bits I need to get this done. I was merrily lapping in the valves earler but then got distracted by playing Guitar Hero. Tomorrow I will be hard on myself though. All done bar four exhaust valves so the head will be completely reassembled by the end of tomorrow ready for the swap on Sunday. Someone remind me to go and get some coolant tomorrow please?
